A-Z Trivia Challenge: In the News

& Me!!

Before we get to the trivia, I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families in Boston. I can't even imagine how it feels to be part of something so horrendous. To be having a good time, then boom. Doesn't seem right. The bombings at the marathon are a sad reminder of just how crazy our world can be and how fragile life is. May the All Mighty, by whatever name you call Him, bless you and keep you safe in our turbulent world.

Today's challenge letter is N...and since it seems fitting, let's check our NEWS facts.

Yesterday's News:

1. What teen singer got himself in hot water after a trip to the Anne Frank museum?

2. What precious metal saw its prices hit a two year low?

3. What country continues to tweak the nose of the US and the world with threats of a missile launch?

4. What former Prime Minister of the UK did we have to say good-bye to?

5. What might be the germiest place in your house?

Bonus: Who declared this young Colorado man's recovery a miracle and attributed his healing to prayers directed to the German nun, Mother Theresia Bonzel who lived over 100 years ago?

(1. Justin Bieber; 2. gold; 3. North Korea; 4. Margaret Thatcher; 5. the vegie drawer in your kitchen; Bonus: the Vatican)

  1. I didn't know #1, but it was no shock. I also didn't know that about the veggie drawer....yuck!

    1. I never dreamed the vegie drawer ranked as the dirtiest place. It used to be the sink...maybe they just like to mix it up to keep us on our toes!

  2. I got the first two right. I personally saw nothing wrong with what Beiber said. He just said he hoped Anne Frank would've been a Beiber fan. I bet if it was Stevie Wonder or Sting who said this things wouldn't have been blown so out of proportion.

    1. I agree with you Sheena-kay. He's just a kid (I'd hated for 19 year-old me in the spotlight!) and his heart was in the right place. He could be like Paris Hilton and them and spend most of his youth drunk, but he's trying to do the wise things. I give him high marks for visiting the museum in the first place.

  3. Oo, I got four! My best yet. Now I've got to go clean my veggie drawers.

    1. I thought that too! Actually my whole kitchen could use a good scrub down!

  4. Had no clue about that veggie drawer but I heard about the Biebs. That's the news that travels the fastest when you live with three girls under the age of 12. LOL.

And, my thoughts and prayers are also with those that were targeted in yesterdays bombing. So horrific!!

    1. I felt bad for the Biebs. I wasn't always burning all the watts in my bulb when I was 19...I'd hated for some of my "profound teen thoughts" to be shared in public!

And yes, my heart goes out to the people of Boston...and NY. I had that wave of fear remembered from 9/11 for a moment yesterday. I can only imagine what memories it digs up for those closest to ground zero.

  5. Hello, Elizabeth! This is awesome! What a cool theme for the Challenge. I got three of the answers right. That's weird about the vegetable drawer. Gross!

  6. I didn't do very well on your trivia today; I must be off my game. :-)

As to the Boston tragedy, I think I'm beyond words on this one. I have friends who run that yearly and when I heard the news I was sick.

  7. I got the first four right. Kind of creeped out about my vegetable drawer now!

Hard to even know what to say about Boston. :(

    1. Four is good!

And there is nothing that can be said about Boston; senseless...completely senseless.

    1. It probably didn't make sense to most people. It's a little windy!

  13. That made my cry yesterday. I turned on the TV to start my workout [a dvd] and was stunned. Still makes me cry. I just don't understand how people can be so awful.

Now you've distracted me w/ wanting to know what the Bieber did at the Anne Frank Museum.

    1. It is stunning. Makes zero sense.

Poor Bieber...the downside of being 19 in the public eye.

But in all seriousness, what happened yesterday was awful beyond words. My thoughts go out to Boston too. ):

  17. Hey Elizabeth!

Sadly, I knew the first one. And Canada is trying to pretend he isn't Canadian. I've actually signed the petition to get him to move to America on a permanent basis.

And the "Iron Lady's" funeral will be on the telly this Wednesday morning over here.

It was with horror and sadness, we watched the atrocity unfold in Boston.

    1. I feel bad for Bieber. He's just a kid. But I'd sign the petition because of the hair. No guy should have hair that pretty.

I'm sure I'll catch some of the funeral. She was a strong lady.

  18. Aced it today! Well, I didn't specifically say the veggie drawer, but I did say the kitchen.

  20. I got all but the vegetable drawer...

It was only a matter of time before another one of these horrific attacks. THANK GOD it wasn't anything nearly as devastating as 911... It saddens me to see the limbless kids and parents. It's always the innocent that suffer the most.

On a happier side. You, my wonderful friend have been chosen by ME... Just because I can, for X... mystery day. YAY.... So I will feature Healing Summer. You may now do your happy dance. LOL. I hope you're pleased. LOL.

    1. I am beyond pleased!!! Being the mysterious one is always a good thing :)

And sadly, Michael, you are 100% right. There has always been and will always be, people who do evil. But we must also remember, no matter how dark some are, there are far more who are filled with light and goodness.
