Sing: An IWSG Post
So, I hit share and kept scrolling.
Okay, so that's not overly productive, even when you tell yourself it's marketing, but my lack of productivity is not the point. The point is the quote gave me a moment of pause...I allowed it to be a pebble in my pond.
This morning, I was perusing my Facebook page (link added if you're not following, LOL) and one of my Top Fans, Mary, added a simple "true". No exclamation point, no large caps. Just "true". I was immediately worried that her quick response came with a sigh at the end of it.
Gals like Mary shouldn't have to sigh. She's too good a lady to sigh. She's thoughtful and giving. And without her, there wouldn't have been The Summer of Iced Coffee!
Let me explain...
Mary and I were football moms together back in the day and unlike a lot of people who assumed since my day job was playing around with make-believe people that I had all the spare time in the world to go the extra miles. But not Mary. She would take things off my plate AND would ALWAYS thank me for everything I did.
Not just in public ways that would make me blush, but in active, thoughtful ways. I'd get a text, look on your porch. I'd open the door and there would be an iced coffee just for me.
So, this post is for Mary and for all of us who doubt ourselves when we shouldn't. I know, I know...easier said than done. So, I'm adding one quick piece of advice for squelching that voice that whispers, "You can't do this."
You gotta sing!
You can't hear the self-doubt when you're singing at the top of your lungs.
Here's the plan:
1. Pick an inspiring song
2. Crank it up
3. Sing until you forget what you were thinking about
4. Shuffle and repeat as necessary.
*Bonus points for dancing.
This post has been brought to you by the IWSG. Insecurity is the cause of ninety percent of writer's block*. You owe it your writing to drown out the doubt.
What say you...
What doubts stifle your writing dream?
Any songs we should add to the happy play list?
A huge thank you to this month's cohosts. Without you guys, this group wouldn't be possible! The awesome co-hosts for the March 6 posting of the IWSG are Kristina Kelly, Miffie Seideman, Jean Davis, and Liza @ Middle Passages!
*so says Elizabeth
She sounds like a wonderful person!
ReplyDeleteThat she is!
DeleteHurray for Mary. I've often found Marys to be nice - I wonder why that is.
ReplyDeleteI never really thought about it. My grandma's name was Mary and my middle name is Merry, so it's always been a name that's close to my heart.
DeleteWhat wonderful gifts - Mary's friendship and the iced coffee! :)
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is that if I sing, the tortoises can always hide in their shells. Unless it echoes in there . . . . :o
Hopefully, they enjoy it because running away isn't the most likely option.
DeleteHang on to that friend! She's worth her weight in kindness and iced coffee.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! (I had to lay off the coffee. I gained five pounds the year that coffee was released. It could be a coincidence, but at least part of the problem.)
DeleteThat quote is awesome. And I love your solution to it too.
ReplyDeleteGood! The pebble hit your pond too!
DeleteThat quote is so true.
ReplyDeleteAnd doubts feed our negative self-talk. I'm dealing with burnout, so I totally get this on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteTime to sing, Donna!
DeleteI know, I know. Doubt is our enemy. Thanks for the quote, and I love the picture you paint about the pebble in the pond. I agree get the music on and sing loud! It'll turn your day around. I find when I am content, happy I hear myself singing through the day.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to think negative thoughts when you have lyrics running through your brain.
DeleteThat is an awesome quote!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteMary sounds like a wonderful friend. Good on you for honoring her.

She is. It's one of my gifts in life--attracting good people as friends.
DeleteThat is so kind and thoughtful. We all need Mary's in out life -- and be Mary's!
ReplyDeletePS: My blog feed URL has changed.
That we do and definitely should!
DeleteHave a grand weekend.

You too!
DeleteThat quote is super. So spot on.
ReplyDeleteI thought so!
DeleteThanks for this post. I needed that.
ReplyDeleteThe anonymous quote is from me. Sorry.
