Book Love
My mother read to me so often, I never really considered it special. Being read to was as natural as being fed dinner. I never thought about much, but after seeing this quote, I now understand why I have a love of books.
Giving books as gifts was standard for my mom, but she'd also buy them as souvenirs when we traveled. She'd always pick up a book from the region about the history or the lore of the place and read it to us on the ride back making every trip memorable and educational.
I know my mom would be happy to know that we are passing the trait onto our next generation.

Beautiful sentiment. I think it works if our kids (old adults now) are any sign. Thanks for the memories and idea to pass on the the great grandkids.
ReplyDeleteThis post was a bit like preaching to the choir :)
DeleteLook at you with that adorable baby! How sweet! We always read a great deal. Mother took us to the library frequently and encouraged us to read. Reading is such an important part of my life.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Our mothers gave us a great gift of words.
DeleteHaving a little one to read to gives an opportunity to revisit all the childhood favourites.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point!
DeleteMy mother read to me and I always saw my parents reading, so it was also natural to read for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat table setup!
Yay for all the moms out there that instilled a love of reading in their children.

I'll toast to them!
DeleteI'm sure your mom would be happy that you're keeping up her tradition. I loved reading to my daughter when she was a kid.
ReplyDeleteIt's the little things like the stories that I often gloss over in my memories.
DeleteKids and animals are big draws to a booth!
ReplyDeleteMy mother read to me all the time and said I started reading at the age of two.
I'd bring my dog and get double the traffic, but she's afraid of people.
DeleteWhy am I not surprised you're the link in a chain of wonderfully loving worldly readers? Those lucky kids and grandkids of yours! That quote is beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteHugs, dear friend.
I must be like your mum, as I also buy books on the history of the area we travel too. I also read to my kids and I read to my grandkids. Some are book readers, some are not, which is fine. Thanks for popping by my blog and commenting.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always bought me a book for my bday when I was growing up. I was such a total bookworm:) Bookworm. Hmm. Let's change that to bookcat;) Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI was not surrounded by books growing up, and I'm not sure I remember being read to very much either. (I could be wrong, my early childhood memory is shockingly bad.) I do recall seeking them out myself. I read to my kids constantly, but they both grew up averse to reading. I tried my best!
ReplyDeleteMy mom read to us when we were little but once we could read on our own she stopped. But she was an example because she was always reading, and me and my siblings were voracious readers. I read to my kids kids clear until they were older teens. One son, in particular, was a slow reader but was at the top of the charts in listening comprehension. He's quite the "reader" now because he listens to audiobooks.
