That memes a lie. It's been a very busy summer, which is good and bad. It's good that I've made myself productive, but it's bad that being constantly busy makes summer zip by.
I love summer. I want to relish in it, not get whiplash.
I made the mistake of bragging about my wealth of hidden skills. My husband is a farmer and after his dad passed away, he was left with a lot of extra work on his plate. Since he fully supports my  insane writer dreams, I reminded him that my grandparents ran a farm and most of my summers were spent helping on said farm.
*Most people would never guess I have such skills because I drink with my pinky up and squeal at the sight of worms and bugs.
Never judge a book by its cover. (Writer pun unintended, but not deleted.)

So, add farm hand to my resume.

Interesting tidbit. Years and years ago, my grandma told me that a writer should marry a farmer because farmers are rational types who can keep a dreamer's feet planted in the earth, even when their heads are  in the clouds. I was about sixteen when she told me that. I laughed. I wasn't marrying anybody, ever.

What else is happening?
Young writers! I've been working this summer with a youth writing group, and it has been the most fun. They taught me how to better use Pinterest for plotting.
Hopefully, I've taught them a thing or two as well. I did link them up with Annalisa Crawford! Annalisa is an award-winning short story writer, and she zoomed in and shared tips and techniques with our kiddos. After it was all over, one of them messaged me...was she really from England? No, she's just really good at the accent.
I took her picture mid-Zoom, because I knew I wanted to add a thank you here.

Thank you, Annalisa!

Oh, and I published a book. I've been semi-sort of promoting it. I did a month's worth of giveaways via my newsletter, which was fun. I've neglected my writer newsletter so much that I felt those guys deserved to be spoiled a bit. I decided that was an easy way to interact with readers, so I will keep doing periodic giveaways in the newsletter. People need thanked for not labeling me as spam, right?

If you would like to sign up for my newsletter, you can do so HERE!

Ahh books...aren't they pretty side by side?

    1. Farming is a lot like writing. A whole lot of work for very little money.

    1. It was cool. Her accent is even better in real life than in my imagination.

    1. It is funny. Was it coincidence or influence...feels like coincidence since I didn't plan it. But I'll never really know. Maybe it was subliminal.

  7. Congratulations on the new publication! That's awesome.
You and Annalisa make a dynamic duo. Funny that a student couldn't believe she's really from England. Some of the best people are.

    1. I think it was more in awe that they were talking to someone from England. We can be a pretty isolated state.

  8. I've got to admit, I'm ready for this summer to be over. Too much heat. Too little rain.

  9. Congrats on your newest book! Hot summer here. We're in a drought, which stinks because I'm a gardener and I can barely water my garden.
