November 2022 IWSG

Here's my insecurity for this month. Some people suck. They're petty and seem to look for opportunities to pick fights with anyone and everyone or they spend all their time picking their own wounds. Right now, the online world is full of these people. They're mentally exhausting and they make me want to avoid the internet.
It makes me wish for a more peaceful time. If only we could go back to an age when a writer's only worry was finding a nice quill and some gently-used parchment.
But then I wouldn't have deodorant or voting rights...
Well, fluff it.
It is what it is, so I shall stop overthinking and worrying. It's not like my life is ever that hard.
And it's November! It's time to count the blessings.

Speaking of hard lives and great attitudes, this is a clip from Fresh Off the Boat. It's one of my favorite shows and Grandma is one of my favorite characters. I love her.

That's my insecurity...what's been bugging you this month?

Diary of Anne Frank...talk about a reminder of problem vs. annoyance

Druid's Moon by Deniz Bevan...It's part romance. You know that makes me a fan. And it's my favorite kind of romance. The kind with lots of parts, and by parts I don't mean body parts, I mean plot points.

  1. Online can truly be exhausting! I think that why I still love blogs and blogging. It still happens but much less frequently.

    1. You're right. Blogging is the most considerate of platforms. That's why even when I am busy, I keep the blog.

  2. It is exhausting. I just want to wake up next Wednesday and to good news.

  4. Love what you had to say here. Glad to see your kindness and humor at work, and your choice to be one of the kind. Thank you, Elizabeth!

  5. I keep telling my husband I'd like to go back to the 70's.

  6. I avoid a lot of online interaction due to the levels of toxicity out there. I also draw back from toxic topics, and spend most of my scrolling on puns and words of kindness in select facebook groups when I am online (or digital painting posts on Instagram).

    1. I do love puns. I never thought to scroll for them. Guess what I'll be doing when I get off here...

  7. Online can be like a car crash you're driving by. You find it hard to look away and sometimes that results in you being in your own crash.

  8. I agree with others that blogging in general seems like a more supportive online platform and way to connect with other.

    1. Blogging is more personal and less "drive by". And by nature, I think bloggers are more thoughtful and professional in their postings.

  9. My novel is based in an alternative future after 9/11 and I thought that was pretty dramatic. Even in my alternative vision, I could not see the divisiveness that seems to permeate our daily lives. I am so afraid of what the world will be for my grand children and pray that my kids continue to teach them the important values.

Thankfully there are some people that don't suck out there too.

    1. Yeah, I never saw this coming. I was driving through Pittsburgh and saw a sign that said "The Media is the Virus"... I think that's truth. Our outrage and meltdowns make them money, so us getting along is not part of the media's agenda. My husband and I traveled from home (WV) to Los Angeles and along the way, people were people. Red states and blue states. The world seems a whole lot chaotic when you turn off the media and look someone in the eye when you have a conversation.

Prayer. You nailed it. That's what will get us through. People always ask me what my best tool for raising my boys- prayer and lots of it!!!

  10. What's bugging me? Political ads on television, retailers have had Christmas decorations out since September, and I just realized Thanksgiving is only 3 weeks away! Enjoy your day!

    1. I agree. Back off, Walmart! Though, truth be told...I as soon as the turkey is cleared from the table, I am ready for the Christmas decorations. But then I procrastinate a while...you know all that turkey makes me lazy.

  11. Sadly, people have been petty and awful since the beginning of time. *hugs*

Fortunately, there are others who aren't. I try to find those people.

    1. That is a very good point. It does fee like every problem we are facing is new and somehow worse, but it's the same thing recycled throughout history.

  12. "Some people suck"--I couldn't have said it better. They're the insects in need of a windshield.

I suppose that's me some days, too!

    1. I would never imagine you as one of the bugs in need of a windshield!

  13. I've dropped a lot of social media. I'm tired of the #@!$!! on it. And don't get me started on the annoying ads.

  14. How you doing, girl? How’s life? How them boys?
    It’s been too long!

I agree - people are not showing their nice sides lately. everyone is so on edge, no filters, no common courtesies... I appreciate so much when I see politeness in public. It’s not all gone, and face to face, most people are trying to be good. I think the economy and atmosphere spewed by media and social sources add to the irritation... we just have to keep smiling and hope it spreads!

how about book events? glad to see you still writing away! you going to any next spring? i need to get back into writing and going to events—need some me time!

hope all is well! i miss you!

I miss real life events and miss you too!! I'm so out of the events loops I didn't even get signed up for the one in WV. And I've been sort of writing, but not nearly enough.
