IWSG December 2021

This month's insecurity is my ability to completely forget what I'm supposed to do. I offered to help Patricia Lynn promote her book during her launch and totally forgot. I forgot so hard, I didn't even have that nagging feeling that I was forgetting something. I didn't even realize I'd forgotten until I saw her post with my name in the line up.
I hate that.
It's the writer equivalent of walking around with your skirt tucked into your waistband and you're wearing your oldest, most functional pair of granny panties. It's just embarrassing.
Same happened with the IWSG book club in the IWSG newsletter. I didn't even realize it was missing until Toi emailed me the update.
I swear, if I was fireable, I'd probably be standing in the unemployment line, which isn't so much a line anymore but an online queue, but a line is a better visual, so I'm going with that.
BTW, does anyone know if a person can draw unemployment for ineptitude? Asking for a friend...

Now for more Patricia Lynn!

Tommy forgot his human life when he became a vampire...but it didn’t forget him.

Like all vampires, Tommy must do one thing: survive. With no memory of his life before death, his only connection to humanity is his twin brother. When Tommy rescues a young girl, he learns not all monsters are undead. After returning her to her family, Tommy struggles to understand why he felt so protective of her when she has no connection to him.

As the years pass, and with his twin’s help, Tommy moves on with his ‘life’ but never forgets the young girl or the monster who hurt her. When she re-enters his life as a teenager, Tommy struggles with his vampire need to survive and his desire to protect her. He will be forced to decide which part of him is stronger: The vampire? Or the human? The answer may destroy him.

Being Human is a coming of age young adult paranormal fantasy about finding one’s humanity, family bonds, and the power of love.

December 1 question - In your writing, what stresses you the most? What delights you?
Everything about writing delights me. I love the entire process from the first inkling of a story idea to the final edits. I love the reader interaction. I love having writer peeps to call my besties. I love every single part of it, but the marketing. I HATE selling books. Boo on business. Fairies should drop cash and chocolate to reward me for all my writer efforts, even when they're half-assed.

The awesome co-hosts for the December 1 posting of the IWSG are PJ Colando, Diane Burton, Louise – Fundy Blue, Natalie Aguirre, and Jacqui Murray!

  1. Grats to Patricia! Late is better than never. :)

And I agree with your hatred of marketing and selling books. That's a killer for me too.

  4. Congrats to Patricia on her book! And we all forget things sometimes so don't stress about it.

  5. Marketing can be another tricky thing about being a writer. All the other good things about it makes it all worth it.

    1. You are so right! There are many more positives than negatives when it comes to writing.

  6. I've always been a forgetful person. And I'm not very good at keeping diaries or schedules. It's a stress!

Marketing can be a headache - but as you say, the response from readers if you do reach someone makes it worth it.

    1. Marketing. Ugh. Even having to say, "Buy my book" makes me feel awkward.

  7. I forget things a lot. I hate it, especially when what you forgot was practically in front of your face. I've always had a bad memory. I'm not thrilled about having to market my books either, but it does give me a good feeling when I've gotten the job done at least sufficiently.

    1. Normally, I forget and then remember that I've forgotten, but lately, I've just been clueless.

  8. Thought I would reach out and say hi to ya, stranger.

I've retired from my short stint as a math teacher...and wondering what I should do with myself now. Do I get back into writing...the blogging stuff. So weird that I've been out of it for so long/no longer even on facebook or twitter. Always hated the 'selling' anyway.

Do I remake myself, or just enjoy real retirement. Decisions, decisions.

Hope you are well...as well as all the men in your life(smile)...do miss keeping up with you.

    1. How awesome!!! You're back!! My day is made. Sending hugs. I'm still on those platforms, but I decided I like blogging best, so this is where I will devote my energy. I decided I'll do what's fun and enjoy it. You should do the same! We could be rebel writers together.

You should remake yourself and stick around. I've missed you!

  9. I could join you in that "unemployment" line. Life gets hold of us and our memory suffers. Making up for it like you did was great. We all got to see it. Congrats to Patricia Lynn on her newest release.

    1. Unemployment may pay better...

I do like to try to rectify my messes when I realize I made them. Kind of jerky not to.

  11. Congratulations to Patricia on her book! I too, have found forgetting to be an issue lately. Maybe it’s stress! I’m gonna blame stress!

  12. Oh I can so relate to forgetting. Same thing has been happening to me. I'm usually on top of that stuff but lately it like a big whoops.

    1. Same here! Okay, so I can be flighty, but never unreliable. I feel like I am bordering on unreliable and I don't like that.

  13. That part of writing that delights me the most is coming up with the ideas in the first place! I love making notes and day dreaming lol!
