About Us, the Cover Story
I was so busy getting this book together last week that I completely forgot to even do a blog post. Oh, and I also went to New York for a few days to visit my son.
I suppose it was a pretty busy week and I had just cause to be a slacker.
I'm not much better organized this week. My husband is out grabbing pizza and I'm trying to catch up on all the little launch things that I should have had prepared months ago.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
I hate those words.
But let's forget the things I didn't do right and consider the thing that is perfect:
Check out my cover. Isn't it the prettiest? Carrie Butler did that. I can take no credit. I was looking through stock photos of hot men (rough job, I know) and couples for hours. I even had my street team and writer friends searching through pictures, but nothing fit. Lisa BC suggested I might need to go symbolic.
I told Carrie and she agreed. The problem was the book is dark, yet hopeful. Serious with some humor. It's a story about abuse, but refusing to be a victim any longer. It's about the reclamation of life, the rebirth of spirit after a broken life.
Carrie suggested the butterfly on the broken glass.
To be honest, I immediately imagined Mothra destroying a building, but I trust Carrie. I knew even if I couldn't imagine how it would work; it would work. My regular publisher got me the pictures and even she sent me a message that said, "Here's your photos. I cannot imagine what kind of cover they will make."
I sent her the finished product. She was impressed. As she should. It's simply perfect.
Blurb:
Hayden Matthews isn’t looking for love—she’s trying to get as
far from it as possible. She's already wasted eight years in a failed marriage
and is ready for a good life. A peaceful life. One where she can raise her
daughter to be strong, independent, and happy. But to make that happen, she
must fix her own life first.
Cam Vorelli has loved Hayden since he was in grade school.
Always in the friend-zone, he stood on the sidelines, his heart breaking, as
she said I do to the wrong man. A man he knew didn’t deserve her, who could
never love her as he did. But what could he say? She was marrying into his
family. Cam would never break a holy vow much less be disloyal to his kin.
Until he sees the bruises on Hayden. Abuse is a game changer.
Leaving a husband like Tag, who has a hot temper, a badge, and a
gun is tricky. When Hayden calls Cam for help, she isn’t trying to lure him
into any romantic webs. She needs someone she can trust and knowing her
soon-to-be ex fears his former NFL cousin is a bonus.
When Cam comes to her rescue, he isn’t doing it to win her love.
He does it because it’s the right thing to do. But if she starts to feel the
same for him…couldn’t it be fate?
Excerpt:
Was she a monster for wanting to be happy? Screw happy. She
didn't start the divorce process so she could be happy. She
wasn't a child. She knew happy was an elusive, often selfish goal.
Being happy was Tag's thing. He wanted every day of his life to be some sort of
party.
She hadn't asked for anything so impressive. She didn't ask for
a big house or a new car. Hell, she didn't even expect vacations. All she
wanted was a simple life, a peaceful life. A life where she knew when her
husband said he had to work late that he truly was working late, not diddling
the bartender or dropping the grocery money into a slot machine.
She'd have been content with a marriage that simply wasn't
miserable.

I think Mothra would've worked just as well!
ReplyDeleteCarrie did an excellent job with the cover.
Mothra would have tricked a bunch of readers and gotten me ripped in the reviews. LOL
DeleteI love the cover. Best of luck! Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteI always get nervous when people tel me they're going to read it. Or that they've just read it...you know that pause between- hey, I read your book and then their thoughts. I'm always worried it will be- and it sucked. Can I have my money back?
DeleteIt's a wonderful cover. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI've always loved this cover and even more so now, that I know the symbolism behind it. You took a difficult subject and, with your usual skill, crushed it. Full steam ahead:)
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks, Sandra!
DeleteLove your cover. Awesome that Carrie did it for you.
ReplyDeleteShe is a pretty awesome friend. She's my go-to gal for all things I can't do. I'm not sure there isn't anything she can't do.
DeleteAwesome cover indeed. Well I guess working on novel stuff and traveling is a fine reason to be a blog slacker haha
ReplyDeleteIf only I had a cat to help, then I would have posts set up for months in advance.
DeleteThe cover is great.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thanks, Janie!
DeleteI can't wait to read it. Congratulations friend. It is a beautiful cover. Have a blessed day day friend.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth!
DeleteWow - the cover, the excerpt - it's all so you and so great.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Carrie for a beautiful cover.
Congratulations to you for birthing another (what appears to be) fabulous masterpiece.
I'm proud of you.
The cover is so perfect. Hopefully, the story does it justice.
DeleteThank you, Patricia!
ReplyDeleteThe cover is awesome!!! Lots of romances have covers with hot men or good-looking couples on their covers (Um, not that there's anything wrong with THAT...) but YOUR cover is much more than that. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading your book. :) (No surprise... I love it...)
It's so hard to get a cover to match the feel of your book, especially using stock photos. But Carrie is amazing at finding the spirit of the book. My next book cover is being going to have a graphic design drawn by our Father Dragon. He's working on it now. I can't wait to see it.
DeleteLove the cover, love the book, love the author. It is an excellent read.
ReplyDeleteLove Jo. :)
DeleteCONGRATS!!! The cover came out really nice. It's eye catching and does give that dark yet hopeful vibe. (PSST: the blurb/excerpt is good too :) )
ReplyDeleteThank you. And THANK YOU! I always worry about those blurbs and excerpts.
DeleteIt's a beautiful cover. Congratulations to both you and Carrie!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's a great read!
You were one of its first reviews. That makes you seriously special.
