Well, I Am Good

Moving them in!
Me, Cole (in the back), and Caleb
It's back to school time. For me- that means taking two of my babies back to college. When back to school includes carrying furniture and scrubbing down apartments, it makes me miss the days of snack boxes and back packs even more!

But- even though it's work; it's still time spent with my guys.

I have entertaining kids. They're funny. And a bit quirky. If you notice, Caleb and I are blocking Cole in the picture. He was wearing a white shirt that got sweaty, and he didn't want any "nipplage" showing in the picture.

When we were done, we hit Taco Bell for some food. While ordering at the drive-through window, the lady asked me how I was doing.

I said, "I'm good- and you?"

"I am well," she answered, with more than a little emphasis on well.

My guys got a kick out of that. Writer mom got English schooled by the Taco Bell gal.

But I wasn't ruffled. I have the perfect defense:

When I say, I'm good- I mean, I'm good. Well only takes into consideration my physical well-being. Saying I'm good encompasses my entire cosmic essence and spiritual being.

And you know, some days I'm only well. Other days I'm good. And on very special days- I'm *gooder than good.

*I only did that to make grammar Nazis click their heels. But, I know how it grates on the nerves, so I'll be nice.

How's this? I hope you're feeling better than good and all is well in your world!

It's Friday, and I am long overdue in my celebration of my small things!
Thanks to our hosts in this weekly check in: LexaL.G, and Katie!

1. It's still summer weather- even if the kids are back in school.

2. It's one week until the first game of our high school football season. My baby is a senior, so this counts as a bittersweet one.

3. The boys are coming home this weekend. With two gone and the other two in school practice- it's been awfully quiet this week.

  2. Aww. Big hugs. It has to be tough. The good news is, they may move back home after graduation! I saw a statistic about that recently. I actually did move in with my mom after graduation while I was trying to get that elusive first post-college job!

    1. Nothing wrong with coming back home. It's smart- a great way to save money. I moved back with my parents. Why pay rent when I could spend that money on clothes?!

  7. For some reason I didn't realize till now that you have four boys. Holy cow! They must have kept you busy growing up. As for grammar Nazi, if she literally said "I am well," then she's WRONG. "Well" is an adverb and modifies a verb, which you must use in the sentence. Saying "I am well" is like saying "I am quickly." "Good" is an adjective and can be used alone, like "I am happy." You're gooder than good - and I'm Nazi-er than the grammar Nazi! lol Have a great weekend!

    1. VINDICATION!!!! I love you Lexa Cain.

Yes, I have four boys- each two years apart. At one point, I had four kids under the age of five. Needless to say, there are parts of my memory from my late twenties and early thirties that are just foggy, sleep deprived memories.

  8. How about I'm on top of the world? I guess I am a bit of a grammar nazi. I hate bad grammar and one hears a lot these days. Bad emphasis too. There is a medical place who advertises in our area and the ads are all emphasized incorrectly, drives me batty.

  9. What a lovely picture! Your boys look great :) Enjoy your baby's senior year. Mine just started college and is still living at home the first year - a time I'm going to cherish because I know it won't last. And as to Grammar Nazi. . .I say your gooder than good!

    1. Your son is smart. You save a ton of money doing it that way. Unfortunately, we are very rural and a commute is out of the question. By the time we send four boys through, we'd have been wiser to relocate closer to the college.

  12. Hi, Elizabeth...

It must be hard. I have many friends who are empty nesters and they always have a hard time at the beginning... THEN... THEY are revved up and ready for a new life! Have a great weekend!

    1. You're so right, Michael. I always tell myself and my kids- life is lived forward. Enjoy the moment and the good things each moment has. I will miss them when they move out, but I'll keep myself busy. There's too many things to get done in this life to sit and brood.

  14. Hi human, Elizabeth,

Because my human, Gary, is so tired and running so far behind in commenting, I've decided to take over for the next little while.

One minute, they are little kids and the next...well, you know the rest. I feel good knowing that you are good. Hey, human, Elizabeth, you are the bestest! Arf!

    Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses,

    Penny xx

    1. Dearest Penny, I am so happy (used correctly...if I adverbized that, I would say I am so happily- that Lexa Cain is a genius!) to have you stop by. I've missed your pawsitivity.

Tell Gary I totally understand. I've been blogged down myself and been remiss at comments, posts, and visits.

Hugs to you both!! Hope you are good yourself.

  15. Moving your sons in sounds like it was fun and memorable. That is too funny about the drive thru. I think most of us say good in response to that question because socially that has become the more common response. Well might be correct, but we say good. Have a gooder than good day! :)

    1. According to Lexa Cain- we are correct in saying good. Well modifies a verb; be verbs like am are reflective and require an adjective. I'm standing with that logic and claiming to have been right all along- intuitively!

    1. It's a mixed feeling. I do miss them as little ones, but I wouldn't trade the awesome adults they've grown into. In some ways, it's sort of nice to enjoy the time you invested in them when they were little.
