It's About Perspective...

Last week I added solitaire to my iPod.

It started off as a nice way to occupy time between appointments and other down times.

BUT....THEN... I REALIZED (insert gasp) the Zynga company was GRADING me!

AND I was a measly 25% successful!

I know, I know. You feel my pain. I mean no matter which way you slice it, that's a fail, right?

And honestly? I don't like to fail.

I mean I have my fair share of fails...I just DO NOT enjoy them.

Long story short. I wanted, no NEEDED, a better percentage.

So I played their game...with a vengeance. I played while I watched tv, before bed, when I got up, when I shoulda been cooking dinner....

Then last night, my husband (who from henceforth shall be known as The Stud...he doesn't like hubby) was going in and on about documents and healthcare and legal notices and dropped benefits...blah blah blah...then... I won! Three games in a row!!! Percentage raised to a whopping 32%

Happy dance!

No?

My elation was met with stunned disbelief as The Stud pointed out I hadn't heard a single word he said. I totally blocked him out.

The Stud informed me I was obsessed.

Hmmm...maybe.

But to me...that ability to block out the world and focus on a self-set goal; knowing full well the only kudos may be the pat on the back I give myself?

Well my dears, I do not call that obsession. I call it dedication.

It's a skill that serves me well. It's that sort of patient tenacity that keeps me from throwing a key board through a window.

And fortunately for me The Stud loves me and puts up with my...um...obsessively dedicated personality.

  1. Lol well, it's not obsessively unless it gets in the way of your writing.

    1. LOL...I get just as obsessed with the writing. I tell myself I will write until 1:00 pm, then clean my house and cook dinner. I don't know how many times I will lose track of time, I'll hear the bus, and then I'll try clean by stuffing everything in closets.
(and for the record...I removed solitaire from my computer and laptop...no sense dangling temptation!)

  2. Haha, I have had similar battles with games. I remember staying awake for hours and hours one night because I was stuck on a level of Angry Birds and I couldn't sleep until I had earned three stars for it!

  3. Oh, yes. My husband knows the obsessed girl well. RIght now I'm checking blogs and answering emails while he's trying to catch the last few minutes of sleep before his alarm.
ANd I bet he can't remember the last movie he watched when my keys clacking weren't in the background...

    1. I hardly ever write around people. I'm one of those weirdos that hate to have people read over my shoulder and when they talk to me, I totally lose focus. I need to get over that. I always fall behind in the summer when all the kids are home.

    1. That's right. Focused on training the logic side of my brain. That helps my plotting skills...next week's post...justifications! LOL

  5. Here's my little embarrassing confession: I once played solitaire so much I used to dream about the cards flicking up on the screen! That's when I knew it was time to stop.

I also have a conspiracy theory that the programme doesn't let you get your percentage up. If you win too many in a row, it throws in some impossible games.

    1. I know your conspiracy theory is right. After my record setting three in a row and a higher percent? All losses. Down to 13% And don't even ask me about spider solitaire!

  6. Tad...obsessed. But I'm super dedicated/obsessed about stuff too. I'm on a happy high, scaring people with my creepy spider blog entry/story and loving Hunger Games that I saw on sunday.

    2. Jenny, mine gets addicted too. But, he gets addicted to Call of Duty and according to him that doesn't count because he is actually skill training to save the world if need be.
Men. Can I make a happy face with an eye roll?

  8. Lol. I do this with my phone all the time. My bf will be talking and I won't hear a word he said. He doesn't like it, but he's gotten to the point where he'll wait until I look at him before he talks. He won't say how annoying it is, but I know I'd just take the phone away. So he has more patience! LOL.

  9. Haha. Love that. Dedication. Not obsessive :)
