Schooled on the Weekend...

I guess we're always learning...even on our 'days off'.

Friday evening I went grocery shopping with my husband. It took him ten minutes to clean and de-germ the cart. I poked fun at him. He asked, "You don't clean your cart?"

No. I'm a mad woman who lives life on the edge.

By Sunday afternoon I was curled up on the couch crying over aching joints and a stuffy head. He made me dinner and did the dishes...while constantly reminding me it was my "damned dirty grocery cart ".

Lesson learned. Thank you, Chad Seckman, OCD extraordinaire.

Saturday, I knocked a glass off the counter and broke it.

Cole (#2 boy) came rushing in. Something broke!

MOM DID IT!!!

Cool. Welcome to the club, Mom. But you still rank amateur in the breakage hall of fame.

Originality of story? 0 points ...I should have been doing ballet spins in stocking feet and knocked it off.

Value of breakable? 1 point...cheap freebie glass from McDonalds, easily forgettable

Effect of damge? 5 points....glass scattered from one doorway to another...smashing!

It was good to learn there is a system in place to rate damage history...I understand Carter (boy#3)still holds the record high score

Sunday my mom calls to tell me she fell and broke a rib. I gave her the required lecture on her need for Life Alert.

"Oh hell, my life alert works fine. Rob (the neighbor) was over here in five minutes and I don't have to pay him a monthly fee."

I suppose with age does come wisdom...and it's a good thing...something has to offset the loss of balance!

So, how 'bout you? Learn anything good this weekend?

  1. Oh dear, I guess bad things really do come in threes!

I don't think I learned anything of value this weekend, other than how much I enjoy the simple pleasure of being lazy on Sundays!

    1. But I rank that tops in the list of priceless knowledge!

(and the three thing...creepy isn't it?)

  2. Ha! Elizabeth, you're a riot! I really want to read your writing. If your characters are half as interesting as you are, I'm gonna love 'em.

As for my weekend, we lost power Saturday morning and spent all day waiting for it and our water (we live on a well and our water is pumped, by the God's of electricity, up to us) to come back on. The relaxing day was great, but I spent the rest of the weekend trying to catch up. I may need another week. : )

I hope your mother heals soon!

    1. Ah Emily thanks. :)

I hope my characters are more interesting than me! (I tend to be lazy and boring...lol)

I love when nature forces us to slow down, but you're right, the catch up stinks!

  3. Oh my goodness... I am laughing at your mom. Sad that she broke a rib, but love her version of life alert. Makes sense!

Also - sometimes ballet spins on the kitchen floor can't be helped! At least you made it a memory! :)

And don't get me started on grocery carts. The germs freak me out! But I don't clean them much cause I don't want people thinking I'm crazy! hahaha. I do carry a large thing of hand sanitizer in my car though and use it obsessively!

    1. LOL Leigh. I use do much of the sanitizer in my car, I've almost ruined the leather on the steering wheel!

  4. Oh man! I feel your mom's pain, I've only had ribs dislocated and that hurts enough! And I'm kind of the queen of dish breakage in my house!

This weekend I learned the value of disconnecting from the internet if you want to get any writing done! I've struggled with that before, but yesterday I tried it and it worked really well.

    1. She's a trooper (or a crazy woman) Kristen. She can barely move, but insists on staying at home.

And you're right about the internet. It's so addictive. I loaded a few new games on my iPod...big mistake!

  5. I don't de-germ anything (but the bathroom). Takes too much time :)

    1. Just wash your hands, right Angela? We're busy ladies...we got things to do besides scrub down grocery carts!

  6. "No. I'm a mad woman who lives life on the edge."
    This made me laugh. :)

  7. This is great! The beginning of this sounds like daily conversations with my boyfriend - He has the immune system of the gods and is a constant hand washer, while I share a spot on the 'edge' with you. The view is nicer out there... until that view moves to the porcelain view from the bathroom floor. Thanks for the laugh!

  9. Gotta love it when glass shatters and covers the whole floor space. My best breakage was a bottle of OPEN nail polish. It bounced. Everywhere. ;)

    1. Lynda, you would have to score at least an 8. 6 for the mess, an extra two points for the bounce.

  10. Clean your cart? I really should have thought of that, mild OCD and all.
    Thanks for sharing :-)

    1. Oh no...another cart cleaner!! LOL.
You'll probably have less sniffles than I do, so clean away. :)

  11. FYI... Dog, size of a small horse, is staring into my eyes at the moment, holding Elmo in her mouth. I think she wants something. Licking my elbow failed to give her the response she was looking for, I guess.

I LOVE this, Elizabeth! Though, SO sorry to hear of your illness, breakage fess up and clean up, and particularly your poor mom's rib!

Hey! Three is my *lucky* number. Balance comes in threes. Sometimes the good kind. Sometimes the crappy kind. But always BALANCE.

We're a house full of non-cart-cleaners. Perhaps it's why illness has moved in and taken over this past month. It thinks it lives here. I found it sprawled out on the couch the other day with the tv remote in its grimy little hands!

I just realized, I think I'm answering questions from two of your posts. My head is still feeling a bit fuzzy.

    Better Health to YOU! *g*

  12. Hope you guys get well too. And it's alright to combine post answers, it's good time economy.
