Mind, Body, Spirit

Normally, I'd never share a photo like this publicly. It’s usually the kind I’d delete after viewing as quickly as Ethan Hunt burns a message. A friend snapped the photo during our trip to the UK. We were traveling by van, and people (Melissa) kept dropping their (her) phone, and since she was squeezed into the middle seat, I was the retriever. It was an awkward job, but someone had to do it!

So, why did I keep it? Well, unlike Ethan, who has to burn each message after he chooses whether or not to accept it, I need reminders. While I was trying to get things (usually Melissa's phone) from the floor, I realized that if I didn't start making better choices, I'd soon be too rickety to squat in a moving van.

I can’t let that happen. I still have these two cuties to keep up with!

So, I’ve started prioritizing some things that will keep me functioning. Every day, I aim for at least 15 minutes of physical exercise; 15 minutes studying something (currently trying Spanish...no soy muy bueno); and 15 minutes of Bible time.

I’m also setting goals again that include things that make me happy. One of those includes writing at least one personal blog post per month. Not a post about writing, but about life. I used to do that back in the early days of blogging. I wrote for fun. Then blog posting got called marketing and became a job. Now that I'm on the upper end of fifty, I am committed to doing the things in life that are fun.

Okay, so the exercise is never fun. That’s an imperative I choose to accept in order to complete my other missions.

  1. Exercise can be fun. Make it a challenge. When I'm at the gym, I secretly compete with people younger than me. I see if I can run longer on the treadmill than they can. And I always win!

    1. That would take years of re-orienting my brain, but you're right! I need to see it as fun and as a privilege denied to many!

  2. Those little people are adorable.
You're wise to commit to exercise, mental and physical - it's awful when you look back and think 'if only' . . .

  3. Great picture! Nice to see you. Wonderful goals. I like your 15 min. blocks of time. That makes the commitment manageable and not overwhelming. Don't think of it as exercise. Exercise becomes such drag or chore. Try thinking of it as movement. I need to move for 15 min. Semantics 😉Enjoy your weekend.

  4. Estoy aprendiendo español! Started over a year ago.

I joined my husband's gym this past summer because the steps and exercise I was getting at home just wasn't cutting it anymore. You're right, we have to take care of ourselves.

    1. You're probably far ahead of me in the espanol journey! Staying active does more and more effort as I age, that's for sure!

  5. Good for you! I'm in a similar boat, trying to make those positive changes, etc. I've been using the "dreadmill" and I sometimes set little challenges for myself, like go two minutes without holding on or bump up the incline for five minutes, etc. Keep at it! :)

    1. The dreadmill. I love it! Some days I feel like doing nothing at all, so I've found fun dance videos on youtube to do when I am completely lazy.

    1. I agree. As long as I'm here, I want to be as productive as I can be.

    1. I wouldn't want to be the example...unless it's an example that if I can do it anyone can.

  9. Those cuties are exceptionally cute! And that photo of you - now that's fun. And fun - now that's the point of it all, or so I've decided in my later fifties.
    Love ya.
