This month's optional question:
What is your word for 2023? Why?Habit. I've had terrible writer habits. I've read the best way to get rid of those terrible habits is to replace them with good ones. That's the plan for 2023. Identify the bad habits and replace them with better ones.

Replacing bad habits with good ones is a great idea, though sometimes it's challenging to stick with the good habits. Good luck with your changes this year.

DeleteI almost chose 'Do' for my word. I'm good at making lists of things that need doing, but this year, I'm making myself actually get up and DO them. Good luck with retraining your habits.

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of things we get done that we never count, so I have been trying to give myself credit for some of those sort of things.

DeleteGood luck! I'm going to attempt some writing habits this year too, but I'm afraid to be too hopeful about it given how 2022 ended.

I'm one of those insane optimists who believes we can never be too hopeful. Just be kind to yourself when life interrupts and you have to take a pause on your goals. Life is where the stories come from, so when you're living, you're accumulating story fodder.

Oooh, good luck with that one. Identifying bad habits can be fraught with danger, when you realise what is lurking behind them. As for replacing them with good ones... well, I'm going out for a walk every day. Round the block will do. So far, so good. And that's just one bad habit I'm trying to replace with a good one!
ReplyDeleteMy son once told me my procrastination was rooted in my fear of failure. It ruffled my feathers at first, but he's right. And that's a huge fear to overcome unless you baby-step your way through it.
DeleteWalking the dog is a great idea. I should do that more often. My dog loves walks.

ReplyDeleteI've never had a 'word of the year'. But I believe in perseverance. So maybe that will be my ongoing word for years to come.
