Thanks to this month’s awesome co-hosts  Tara TylerLisa Buie CollardLoni Townsend, and Lee Lowery! We couldn’t do it without you!

When you set out to write a story, do you try to be more original or do you try to give readers what they want?
Readers first. Always. Every time. If I’m not entertaining my reader, why am I writing?

  1. That's a good view on it. I suppose if I view myself as my reader, then I do aim to entertain too.

    1. There was a time when I considered only writing for me. I figured I'd write, print, seal in an envelope, and hide it in my closet. Be the Emily Dickens of novels. Then I decided I'd go ahead and publish. LOL

    1. It is! Probably because the world needs more happy endings.

I'm alive and kicking! Hope you're doing well too.

    1. I had to post from the app from my phone. I lost the first post somehow and had to be at a work event and figured short and sweet was better than nothing at all. I don't want to lose my IWSG spot!

  4. Short and sweet is always a good way to go about things, when in doubt :)

    1. When in doubt or in a hurry...though some better prior planning would eliminate the hurry, but alas, I rarely do.

  5. I'm a middle of the road writer. I want both:) I want my voice to be my own and my readers to like it. Heh.
Hope you had a Happy BDay.

    1. I totally botched this question. I was on a whole different pattern of thought. LOL

  7. Yes, readers first, but I do want the freedom to write stuff that straddles genres. As a reader, I like stories that don't fit neatly into a genre, but then I hear that readers want consistency and predictability, so... *shrug*

    1. It just depends on how many readers you want to please. You could always write for a niche market and straddle all the genres you want.

    2. Hi Janet, I like that freedom too. In fact, your comment made me check your website and I'm just about to sign up for your newsletter. I like my fiction very much unpredictable and inconsistent!
