Spending too much time in the real world isn't good for the writerly soul. The real world is obsessed with practicality and logical thinking. Out there, our long stares into outer space; our fidgety reaction to being separated from our computer; and our close attention to human behavior (AKA eavesdropping) makes us appear abnormal. It's best to break away often and remind ourselves...there are people who "get" us.

I got to do that this weekend. I got to go to the Ohio River Book Fest and meet up with fellow blogger buddies, Carrie Butler and Tara Tyler. You know how on the internet these two ladies seem all sweet and put together? Believe it or not, they are that and more.

Me, Carrie, and Tara
Yeah, we had some fun!

Now! onto the blog hops (sorry Gary)!
AND I got to meet some awesome new people! Carrie brought along her dad and her sister. Well, let me tell you, those Butler's? Simply wonderful people. The kind of people you meet once and feel like you've known them for ages.

AND I also got to meet some amazing writers from my own home state! Casey Bond and Mary Smith are a couple of writers from the Mountain State. So excited! Locals to bug. Isn't that great? I also got to meet Julie Flanders's publishing house buddy, Banie Lee. Excellent weekend!

Alex Cavanuagh, the Ninja Master extraordinaire, is hosting a hop.

Name a MOVIE – BAND/ARTIST – TV SHOW – BOOK that doesn't get the love it deserve.

Movie: So I Married an Ax Murderer. Nobody gets it when I explain to them I am reading the headlines while thumbing through the tabloids in the Wal Mart line. If anyone would watch the movie...they'd get it. And they'd know why I love the Bay City Rollers "Saturday Night"
Band: I know you're expecting the Bay City Rollers...but no, I'm going with Generation X- Billy Idol's first band. "King Rocker" is to blame for my partial hearing loss. You can't turn that song up loud enough!
TV Show: Firefly...still don't understand why it didn't catch on
Book: My husband helped with this one- the Elric saga by Michael Moorcock...I mean with that name, how is he not known in every household?

And there is this!

  4. I'm so envious that you got to hang out with some lovely fellow authors and bloggers! Living in Portugal, I just never get the chance :(
I think I watched the Ax Murderer movie but it was so long ago, I don't remember it! xx

  5. I don't think any bloggers live in the Nashville area! Looks like a lot of fun. I went to a writer's conference a couple of weeks ago but I didn't really have any long-lost friends to meet up with.

  6. The book fair must've been a lot of fun! And that movie sounds so familiar, but I don't think I ever saw it....

  9. Firefly rocks! Sad to see that go. And So I Married an Ax Murderer is one hilarious movie. I quite it often, Especially, "Head- pants!" No one else knows what I'm talking about, but that is my kids clue to put some clean pants on, LOL

  10. Someone needs to smack me upside the head for not watching Firefly. *shame*

  11. I love Firefly! I haven't seen So I Married an Ax Murderer, though I've always thought about picking it up. I mean, poor axes. What'd they do to deserve to get murdered? J/K. :)

  23. Hi Elizabeth,
I'm just next door in Ohio. I admire you admitting to be an active procrastinator, it's refreshing hearing someone admit it. But with four boys, I'm sure you don't get a chance to do too much of it. :-)
    It's nice to meet you.

  24. Glad you had fun at the fair and met all kinds of writing friends and authors. Underrated treasures are sometimes the best. Too bad others don't see it sometimes.

  25. Wait! I know you. You're that writer who just published the novel with the beautiful girl on the cover. Could this be the author of Bella's Point? Great to learn more about you.

And you got to meet Carrie! I'm simply not writing the right kind of books. :-( I've never met her in person.

  27. Ooh Elizabeth you're so lucky to have been able to meet some of our blogger friends in person. Looks like you had a good time. I'm glad! So I Married an Axe Murderer is truly an underrated treasure. I don't watch much tv or cable since my bleed except for maybe a couple of shows, so I don't know about Firefly.

I love the Bay City Rollers too :) and like some others here, I will admit to not having known that Billy Idol was once in a band either. :( Hugs! Eva

  40. I would have loved to join you guys there. One of these years...

I was such a huuuge Billy Idol fan. I had all the Gen X tapes. Yeah, cassettes. It's better than 8 tracks, right?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have to say connecting with writers in person is something I don't do nearly enough. It's just so hard to track them down here. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nice to make your acquaintance. I'm here visiting as a part of Follow Fest, which I just joined today. I love the energy you put into your writing. You've got swag as the young people say. I see we share the raising of young men. I have three of them, as well as a daughter. I've linked to several of your media sources, you listed in your interview. Will be back for more! Meanwhile, keep that good energy flowing.

  45. "Harriet. Har-ri-et. Hard harbinger of Haggis..."
My hubby and I LOVE So I Married an Axe Murderer!!!
Whenever we get something that's big, we say that line from the movie... "I believe I ordered the large cappucino. Hello!" And no one knows what we're talking about. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi, Elizabeth. We have a lot in common---laundry, dishes, food shopping...etc....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Funny picture! Us writers are quite weird! lol

    ReplyDelete
  50. The movie and tv show you listed are both favorites of mine!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey, nice to meet you!

I think Firefly gets a lot of love! It just caught on a bit too slowly to meet Fox's standards... and not quite broadly enough to make it as a movie franchise. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ahhh trying to catch up on to-do lists *nods sagely* I do that too and reduce them to post-it notes that get lost in the wash or eaten by animals (I can only assume).
