Mrs. West Virginia

She may wear the crown, but it's family first.
Missy with husband Joe and boys: Erickson and Jackson Eli.

I'd like to give a major congrats to my cousin's daughter...she was just crowned Mrs. West Virginia, USA!

Missy is a wonderful mommy, wife, and college student. Being the princess in the family (she has three big
brothers!) came naturally to her, though being officially crowned was a lot of work. As with any dream, making them come true takes hard work, practice, and dedication.

Way to go Missy!!

Missy and her mom, Teresa Jackson.
Yeah, we have good genes ;)

I'm done bragging. Let's move on...

Thanks Suzy Turner for the chance to yack about myself in the "My Writing Process" blog tour.

1) What am I working on? Getting ready for the Novel Writing convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Spent the weekend deciding between the Square card swiper and the Pay Pal Here. Went with the Pay Pal. I've been tempted to buy something off of myself, just to try it out.

(Yes, I do like to wear the new shoes out of the store and put the old ones in the box...how did you know?)

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre? Plot trumps sex.

(Now, as soon as I typed that...I can think of tons of writers in the romance genre that have more plot than sex. But we all know...sex sells and I'm not saying it's bad...I'm just saying I think they're are plenty of writers covering, or rather uncovering, that market.)

3) Why do I write what I do? I believe in love. I believe in happily ever after. I believe it does no harm for a gal to seek her knight in shining armor, and think she's safer and healthier feeling like a princess than as the flavor of the week.

4) How does my writing process work? Think it. See it. Write it.

    1. I'm just wondering if she'll wear a tee shirt with my book cover to all of her events...hmmm...

      Just kidding!

    2. If you want a t-shirt with your book cover, then I can make it on Cafe Press. You'd have to supply me with a photo of the book, same size as you want it on the shirt. I've made shirts for people that say I WROTE THE BOOK and MY WIFE WROTE THE BOOK. I also have a bumper sticker in my shop that says ASK ME ABOUT MY BOOK.

    3. Thanks Janie!! I will have to check that out. I have another book coming this spring/summer, I will have to get with you!

  2. Congrats Missy! Thanks again Liz for the fun post from Charlie's Scribes. Uncovering...LOL. I love that you believe in love and write what's true to you. I bought a pair of crepe March 1st after seeing The Lego Movie and switched my flip flops with it. It was nice walking around in my footwear.

  3. wow! a crown-wearer in the family! and why does thinking of a "Mrs" pagaent winner inspire a story to me? oh yeah, i'm a writer...
love "plot trumps sex" - please do that! but, romance is possibly attainable fantasy and what readers read most, right?

cant wait to go to ATL! finishing touches and invites!!

    1. I'm a crown wearer too Tara! I got mine from the Dollar Tree, but still I wear it ;)

Romance is a huge genre and I enjoy it...if there is a good plot. I have to have some plot with my steamy sex...oops I mean my stories of love.

See you in Atlanta!! Can't wait :)

  7. Congratulations to Missy.
More plot than sex - Suzy should let us all know the outcome to this, since we're always being told that sex sells. I prefer a good plot myself, but then I'm never on the right wavelength.

    1. Sex definitely sells Fanny. And more power to the peeps who write it. I don't think I have enough creative ideas to fill a book with steam. I just bank on there being enough gals like you to keep me in business.

  8. Congrats to Missy! And yes, plot does trump sex. Something the tension is much more savory than the act.

    1. That is what gets me too Christine. I love the tension. I read a book where they were doing it in the first chapter. Nope. That's not my speed.

  12. Sex sells? I had no idea. Maybe our next novel needs graphic, gratuitous sex scenes.

    Or, you know, maybe not.

    Congratulations to Missy!

    1. My kids were telling me that anime porn is really popular. On one hand, that's sad. On the other hand, no one has to kidnap cartoon characters or get them addicted to drugs to make it.

  13. I'm just curious--why the card swiper? Will you be selling your books using it? I'm new to being published, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can!

As for your answers... I totally agree with you about plot trumping sex... I much prefer to read about the knight in shining armour coming along to rescue the fair maiden :)

  16. Wow, you DO have great genes. Congratulations to your whole family!

This was a great way for me to get introduced to you, so I'm so glad this is the first post I read on your blog! I love what you said about plot trumping sex - the best romance stories, the ones I love the most, have great plots and really well-developed characters, and the sex helps move the plot along. It's not just there for fun :)

I use the PayPal Here for my day job, and I like it, but beware that it takes a little getting used to!! I would recommend paying yourself, actually, so you can practice with it. Just do a couple of $1 payments or something so you get used to how the swipe works, what screens come up, etc. Good luck!!

    1. I couldn't agree more with you Liz! Most memorable romance that made me a romance junkie was Danielle Steele's Palomino. Such an awesome book!!

Thanks for the advice on the Pay Pal. I was so tempted to play with it...now I have reinforcement for my thinking!!

Thanks for stopping by. Loved your twitter advice! I need all the smart people I can get in my life :)

    1. I don't know why. Sex just seems to catch the attention of humans. Dragons probably wouldn't understand this, since they have such noble hearts.

  18. Have fun at the novel writing conference. Sounds like a great place to get inspired. Congrats to your cousin's daughter. Winning a beauty contest is probably the closest thing we've got in the U.S. to feeling like an actual princess.

Yes, that is the closest way to feeling like a princess...or you can buy a tiara at the Dollar Tree and just wear it. We're all princesses at heart :)
