IWSG- Independence Edition

Is there anything you'd like to see changed, added, and/or rearranged about the book publishing industry?

Since we're celebrating independence, let's also celebrate some changes in the publishing industry. Like it or love it, the rise of self-publishing platforms has made it possible for anyone to see their dream of publication a reality. Of course, that comes with some headaches, like the flood of authors joining the ranks in record numbers, making it harder and harder for authors to get noticed. That is certainly a marketing problem, and as much as I loathe marketing, I'm okay with that. Back in the old days, there were gatekeepers who held the keys to the kingdom. Today, writers are free to tell their stories, and I am happy for that.
