What is my insecurity for this month? The usual. I need more time to do all the things I want to do. I always have more on my to do list than I have time to do. But hey, at least I am never bored. Truthfully, the last time I recall being not having anything to do, I think I was in elementary school. I made the childish mistake of whining to my mother, "I'm bored." She countered my complaint with a chore list. Come to think of it...I'm still beating boredom with work.
My mother broke me!
Just kidding. I play plenty. Mostly with make-believe people in make-believe worlds.

DeleteI don't remember being bored as a kid. I always had books. Hmm, I guess not much has changed.... :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't read well until I was in the fourth grade. In the fourth grade, it felt like something clicked and books became my best buddy.

DeleteI've never been bored that I can think of, as a kid or an adult. I think I turned what could have been boredom in to daydream time--though as a kid I acted everything out (not so much now). 🤣
ReplyDeleteI have felt bored once or twice. I recall being a teenager and thinking I should be doing something. I was suffering from that concept that unless you are out actively living, you can never write about it.
DeleteMy mom likes to tell the story of the time she said she was bored to my grandpa and he made her wash every dish in the house. She never complained again.

DeleteI think creatives have the benefit of always having something they can occupy their time with. My son, however, has complained about being bored too, and it just baffles me.
ReplyDeleteBoy #2 was often bored. He was always a very active child. He liked to be moving. Now, he's a writer and is content to sit and stare at walls too.

DeleteSomeone should've taught me to work when I was bored as a child. Maybe they even tried, I don't remember. It never stuck. When I'm bored, I read.

I haven't been bored in years. I'm way too busy (work! family! writing! reading!) and the little rectangle in my purse promises endless hours of entertainment, only a passcode away. I did get bored as a kid, because I was alone a lot, but that led me to writing and daydreaming (which go together nicely) so that was probably a good thing. I can't imagine being a kid now, with constant scheduled activities plus that alluring little rectangle. Do kids even daydream anymore?
