I stole borrowed this picture from Patricia Josephine's newsletter.

Okay, so this isn't a post about newsletters. It's about this picture. It's inspiring and I am so glad Patricia snapped it and shared it.
Look closely...see the tree growing into the side of the mountain? Total weed tree. (Not marijuana weed, survivor weed.) No one planted it, watered it, or cultivated it, but it's still doing its growing thing.

Years ago, they blasted an entire side of the mountain on Route 2 leading out of my town in order to widen the road. It was a stark switch from gently sloping green hillside to vertical bare rock.
Change, even when it's welcome progress, can be ugly.
Fast-forward less than a decade and that hill is now covered in grass, trees, and shrubs.
You'd never know it was blasted.
That's the resilience of creation and at times like now, it's important to remember that we are part of creation and we, like every living thing in our universe, were designed to adapt.
Sometimes we forget that. Until someone snaps a pic of a tree growing on an inhospitable rock.
That's our reminder that no matter what happens, life continues. Even where it seems impossible.
Lovely post! I remember when we lived in San Francisco and would drive the coast. The trees on the cliffs were all bent because of the constant winds, but they dug in their roots and insisted on thriving in spite of it.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how well nature can adapt and thrive anywhere.
DeleteLife will continue. And if it doesn't, we have a better place waiting for us.
ReplyDeleteI told a friend- look on the bright side, worst case scenario, we die and go to heaven. No need to worry.
DeleteShe said I'm fired from being pep-talk giver.
What a great post, Elizabeth. I love it when nature reclaims what man has changed.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Never bet against nature. But I grew up in a rural area. I know first hand how quickly nature takes back over...just don't mow your lawn for a few weeks. LOL
DeleteSo true. Wonderful reminder.
ReplyDeleteI have to keep reminding myself. Some days things seem pretty bleak.
DeleteWhat an inspiring post and beautiful words. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and reading!
DeleteA lovely reminder, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteI guess we all need to take a page from Nature's handbook. She's a survivor.
That she is!
DeleteWonderful post. I have a rather bleak (yet comforting to me) thought about this. I won't post it here, I want you to have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteLeave it to you to post a cliffhanger! Now, you know I'll be wondering about this all weekend, right??
DeleteIt was the least I could do after stealing your photo. :)
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteI loved your articles
Thank you!
DeleteThank you for the wonderful reminder and beautiful sentiment, my friend.
ReplyDeleteYou know me, Robyn. If I can't think positive thoughts, I'd just rather not think at all. :)
DeleteThanks. I needed that. Lovely pic, too.
