Spring Is in the Air!

Spring is the time for spring break. My boys are home for the next few weeks. WVU was on break last week; NYU starts this week. Boy #1 (Caleb) will be flying home tomorrow, which is great. Unfortunately for me, I started reading Judy Blume's In The Unlikely Event.  It's an excellent book, of course, though in hindsight, I don't think a book centered around planes crashing is the best leisure read when your baby is about to board an aircraft.

Spring is also the time for spring cleaning. My mother used to be the most ardent spring cleaner. The whole house would get a once-over and a scrub down. I've always avoided the week-long power clean, but I'm thinking this year, the place is in need of top-to-bottom scrub down. So far, I've cleaned a drawer in the kitchen and the coat closet. That's progress.

I miss you, goofy spring-cleaning nut.
It's also time for spring flowers.  The crocuses are in full bloom, the daffodils and tulips are getting ready. Most all of my spring flowers came from my mom's yard, so they're doubly special.

Deer and rabbits love the taste of spring blooms.
Last year, I started letting my dogs relieve
themselves around the flower beds and that
seems to have deterred the critters.
Gross, but effective.
Spring is also the time for Write Club! As a slush pile reader, I've got my reading glasses on and I'm ready to read. Get the details here.

  1. You will be busy reading for Write Club.
We do a major cleaning like that whenever we are expecting company. Our house is very clean as a result.

    1. I've gotten so arrogant in my older years, I don't even really care what company thinks. But then it's usually my sister who comes and stays and she already knows where I hide the dust bunnies.

  2. cough cough choke sneeze, more coughing, blowing nose...

How can you tell it's spring?

  3. When it comes to spring cleaning, every little bit helps. I used to be a nut-job about cleaning all year 'round, but nowadays, I'm happy if the Health Department doesn't declare our house a disaster area. :)

Have fun with the Write Club! And have a super weekend.

    1. Same here!!! I used to clean my house top to bottom every Saturday. Now, I'm like Saturday is for fun. Sunday for relaxing. Monday through Friday for books. No time for cleaning anymore.

  4. I think I might have missed the big spring cleaning window - it's going to be about 80 degrees or so here today. :)

  5. It will be grate having your boys home for a while. Good-luck with the spring cleaning. You are definitely making progress. I would run away, but I understand why you need to do the big clean. Your mom looks like she was a great woman.

    1. Thanks Murees. She was a book-worthy character. Loving, zany lady I miss quite a bit.

I need all the luck I can get. I clean slower than life makes dirty. It's an unfair balance.

  6. Spring is trying to make itself known where I am. I was able to go outside the other day without a coat. It was 39 and felt so warm. lol

  7. A drawer in the kitchen and the coat closet seems enough to me. You should rest now. WVU as in West Virginia? Willy Dunne Wooters went to college there.

    Love,

    1. I should rest...maybe read a book.

Willy Dunne Wooters got to spend some years in hillbilly country! WVU is West Virginia University. All of my boys went there for their undergrads.

  8. At least you've made a start on the spring cleaning! That is something, right?! I worry whenever anyone I love travels whether on a plane, car, train, any method of transportation if it's long distance. Just can't ever know and just have to have faith. So glad your boys get to come home so much! Our daughter is living with us till April. She's found an apartment, and I'm going to miss her coming home every night. I'm just making sure to enjoy every moment, even the sad ones or hard ones when she has a bad moment, getting used to being without her soon to be ex. We are blessed to have the times we do once our kids grow up and move away.

    1. When our kids hurt, we hurt. I never understood why my mom would get so mad on my behalf, but I get it now. Will your daughter still live close by?

  9. No need to spring clean here, as it all stays clean. Yeah, probably not wise to read about plane crashes when a loved one is on a plane lol

    1. We trash a house faster than you can say boys are home. And the clutter. Wow. Too much stuff in one small space.

  10. We clean all the time as there is no spring specific time!

  11. Seriously. Where do dust bunnies come from???

I've honestly been thinking about this for weeks, nay months, as I have NO carpets and sweep at least 3x a week (dust allergies, not OCD... I swear:) and yet the little buggers are there in the corners as soon as I look again!

    1. I know, right?! We must live in a dirty world. Or we need to get carpet to absorb all the carpet.

  12. I always get in a power clean in the beginning of April. It's right before my mom comes down to visit for my son's birthday! Nothing like visiting relatives to provoke a good cleaning. *LOL*

  13. Enjoy your family. I know you will. That's a great tip about the dogs! I have puppies now and I hope they keep the rabbits away from my flowers. Happy Spring :)
