Apps, Groceries, and Senior Moments

It's been a while since I've done a Small Things check-in, so I thought I better share a few good things!

Meet my newest addiction:

I got this app on my phone. For a gal who watches enough House Hunters that it's upped my geography quotient, this little game is a total love. You get to shop and design rooms that you enter into competition with other "designers" designs. It's so much fun. My husband worries I may have hit total addict level because I've been known to be distracted from episodes of  "The Tudors" to buy sofas.

That reminds me. I'm also loving "The Tudors" on Netflix. I enjoy googling the names and comparing cinematic history with reality. Some things are accurate, some are way off. Like, I don't think Henry VIII was ever this hot:

On the home front, my youngest-- my baby-- is a senior this year. Seriously, how did this happen? How did he grow up so fast? Here's his senior banner for football. Don't let that sweet face fool you, he's pretty tough.

All of the other boys are back at college. Caleb is back in New York. He was home less than a week when the rains and flooding hit Sierra Leon and so many were killed. Such a sad tragedy.

I'm so glad he's back in the states. He'll be headed to Shanghai in the spring, so when we moved him back to New York, we tried to pack light. Usually, we send him back to school with his closets stocked with food, etc. Groceries in NYC are much more expensive than West Virginia, but at the end of each semester, he'd have leftovers we'd have to haul home. This year, I didn't shop ahead because I found the Instacart  app:

Groceries can be ordered online and delivered within 24 hours.
Prices are reasonable and there's only a small delivery fee.

That's my small things check-in. Thanks to our hosts LexaL  .G, and Tonja Drecker for this weekly reminder to look for the good things in life! What good things are new with you?

  3. Another friend's youngster did a year in China teaching and travelled all over whilst they were on school breaks. Gave her the wanderlust, she seems to have been travelling ever since.

    1. A summer in Freetown made him say he enjoys visiting places, but wants to stay firmly at home in the states. We shall see though!

    1. I love them. Even when I was a little girl, I'd make my sister take me through trailer parks so I could look at all the different kind of houses. I have no idea why!

  7. Some of my friends just came back from China, and they said it was such a huge culture shock because of how differently everyone acts there. Not bad, mind you. Just different.

Also, Conner looks pretty badass. I wish I had my own poster.

    1. I suppose I could make you a poster...send me pics. :)

He really enjoyed Freetown. He said that the people there were extremely friendly. He said they've suffered so much tragedy from civil war and the ebola epidemic that they have a fuller appreciation for life and people.

    1. Fortunately, you only have about four challenges per day, so it's not like your there all day. Good thing for me!!!
