I am NOT even going to say how surprised I am that September is nearly over. I'll think it, but I'm not going to SAY it, not very often at least.
Join the goals hop! |
Let's see...what were my goals for this year?
Weight loss. Bleh. So boring. I should have chosen weight gain. Then I'd have knocked a goal out of the ballpark.
But seriously, I went for my yearly check-up and my weight was lower, but I had to admit that since I turned the calendar page to August, I haven't been exercising.
The doc was like...one half hour a day...
I was like...I don't have a half hour...I might have to miss some TV shows...
Anyhow, check with me next month, maybe I'll have done better.
Writing. I finished a story that has been sitting on my hard drive for a while. Initial beta feedback is good. There is still work to do on it, but I have direction and am excited to finally be making up some good stuff.
I think those were my only goals. I was trying to keep the goals simple.
Or I've forgotten what the goals were. Either way, that's what I'm updating. :D
I wasn't standing by a trashcan bomb.
Every road trip I made, I returned home safely.
Sometimes, I forget to count my blessings. It's not until I hear about someone else's tragedy that I remember how good I've had it this week.

I loved this book. It's like a divine Harry Potter.
Fourteen year-old Trotter was still just trying to get the hang of the demi-godding business when the apocalypse began. In a world where the gods have withdrawn from humanity, leaving mortals bitter toward magic, she finds herself constantly torn between her human and goddess sides. When the world begins to fade away and she becomes the prime suspect, her search to find the cause and prove her innocence ends up revolving around a mysterious little girl named Alice. Then Trotter discovers that not all of the gods had been as distant as they seemed...
Now, with everyone against her and the gods fighting amongst themselves, Trotter is on her own to save her world and stop a vengeful god from using Alice to destroy everything.
Isn't it fabulous?!
Pre-orders are officially available! Get your own copy at Amazon for only $2.99. Plus she's giving away FREE e-copies of the second book, TILT to everyone who leaves a review for Alice! Email Ashley about the review and she'll send you an early copy just before Tilt is re-released in November.
Ashley Chappell currently resides in Huntsville, AL. When not writing, reviewing, or burying her nose in one of her well-worn Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman novels, she can be found sailing with her husband on their boat ‘Dupracity’ (Fans of Kurt Vonnegut will want to ask her what that means).
That book looks like an interesting one indeed. Very true, we have to remember the little things, just surviving a drive sometimes does it.
ReplyDeleteI'm naturally prone to whining, but I try to remember what's a real problem and what's not. Life's too short to not be grateful for every day.
DeleteBook sounds good. Don't worry so much about losing weight, Just don't gain any.
ReplyDeleteI have been doing good with that. I need to get back to walking. Just schedule it...maybe I should email you my totals each day to keep me honest. Hmmm...that's an idea!
DeleteSounds like a plan Liz if you want to do that.
DeleteI hear you re the weight. It's something I've been working on, too, and it's been hit or miss. I'm going to my doc soon, and although I know my weight is down from the last time I was there, it's not where I want it to be.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder about counting our blessings! :)
But like Jo says- you didn't gain- that's a wine right there.
DeleteCool cover.
ReplyDeleteGet a treadmill then you can exercise for thirty minutes while still watching your shows.
I have a treadmill...it's being used as a hanging spot for the ironing. I suppose I could move the clothes to closets. :D
DeleteCongrats to Ashley!!!
ReplyDeleteI am not fond of exercising while relaxing (tv or book time). I like walking. It's probably boring because I walk on the same road, but I find myself getting into a rhythm, I see some neighbors, and I get fresh air. It works. I love to bicycle, but my legs are in terrible shape and there are too many hills right outside my door. (or at least that's my excuse.)
So, I'm cheering you on as a fellow weight loss struggler and I hope you find a good exercise that suits you. :)
Way to go with your writing and thankfulness!!!
I really enjoy walking too. One of my biggest problems is distraction. I find a hundred different things to do rather than exercise. LOL
DeleteLove the menopause meme. I so hear you about the weight thing. At least you lost a few pounds. I wish I could say that. Congrats to Ashley! Beautiful cover! Your celebrations are spot on. Thanks for the reminder to count our blessings.
ReplyDeleteI may be finding those pounds this week. I need to slow down a bit and put some healthy foods in my fridge so I'm not tempted to stop at a drive through.
DeleteCongratulations on losing some weight. Weight loss is never my goal during the summer because it's too hot to move. It finally cooled off enough so Franklin and I could go for a walk a couple of days ago. I hope to walk more regularly this winter than I did last year.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
My dogs love a walk. I'm a bad owner not to take them every day. I mean, they act like a walk around the block is equivalent to a trip to Europe.
DeleteA friend of mine sent me an email not long ago, providing an update on her new year's resolution to lose fifteen pounds. So far, so good. She only have twenty to go. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to be reeeeeally thin. Not any more, but I try not to let it get me down. And I avoid the bathroom scale at all costs. (The damned thing lies.)
As more and more of our friends pass away, each day my hubby and I open our eyes is a day for rejoicing.
Trying to lose really is one of the best ways to gain. I was never really thin. I have always been on the sturdy/curvy side. Years ago, a great aunt told me I had one of the best shapes. I started to pat myself on the back and then she added, "It's good to see a girl with meat on her bones."
DeleteGod likes to keep us humble.

Congrats on your weight loss, finishing your short story, and the good feedback. I wish you luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrys!!
DeleteExercising is an ongoing goal of mine. I always intend to start... soon.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your attitude of saying thank you for small things. Should start doing it too.
Same here, Olga. I'm thinking tomorrow may be the day.
DeleteMost interesting book if I may say so. Great post to read.As for your weight your body knows what is good for you though excercise does help. I have been doing more walking to tone my muscles.Enjoy your week-end.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
And my muscles could definitely use some toning. I do enjoy walking. I need to just do it.
DeleteYou need to sound way more excited about that - "my weight was lower, and I didn't even exercise!" Maybe the next story you should finish is some kind of diet fad where you're the success story?
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's like being a $1000 in debt and you find $5...but hey, you're right. It's a step in the right direction.
DeleteThat may be story I could use...I do enjoy fiction over reality.
I think you did well on your goals. Any step no matter how small is still a positive one. So sad about the train wreck. I hear about these things in 3rd world countries, but I never think it could happen in the US. Congrats on joining with other romance writers for the tablet promo, and to Ashley for her book. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteI always love it when you stop by. You always know how to make me feel accomplished.
DeleteWell, lately I've been a lot like that woman over 50 in the picture, so I have been forgetting to count my blessings. Appreciate the reminder. :) Congrats to Ashley! Wishing her well.
ReplyDeleteI feel a lot like that too. I keep reminding myself to focus!
DeleteDon't think of the half-hour exercise as a chore - think of it as writing-thinking time when all your best ideas consolidate and - hey - you accidentally went for a walk :-)
ReplyDeleteGood to know there's another project in the works from you!
You're so wise. That is a good spin. I think one of my biggest drawbacks to finding time for things like exercise is that I'm not equating them to a goal that I really care about.
DeleteWishing you luck with all your goals. And awesome on the weight loss, and beta feedback on your story!
ReplyDeleteThat cover looks great.
I've been walking an hour a day at the gym and I haven't lost a pound...so it could be worse. You're losing weight WITHOUT all that effort! I'm also trying to get my cholesterol down by eating healthier...I just like food a little too much!
ReplyDeleteI can see how well you're doing. I get your Fitbit count and am totally impressed.
DeleteI do like to eat. Good food is just, well, good. You're probably not losing, but gaining muscle. That's even better than just losing.
The cover for Alice Will is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBleh I'm not a fan of exercise either, but I'm trying to walk more because otherwise I'd never be moving.
Same here. The more effective I am at getting words on the page, the chubbier I get.
DeleteLove the meme! So true. Just visited all my doctors and got a great bill of health, good thing that was last week. LOL
ReplyDeleteStill life is wonderful and I'm blessed and know it, I do, I really, really know it. :)
Great cover! WOW!
I'm in the midst of my doctor check ups. I didn't realize I had so many parts to get checked. LOL
DeleteI'm in trouble with my doctor. I haven't been in ages and I think she may be scouring the obits to see if I've shown up. I can hear her now. "Serves her right. She's missed three visits!" Hope you can get that exercise program to kick in. Gotta move or your body goes on strike.
ReplyDeleteLove that cover! Makes me want to climb into the story.
Bad Lee...get to the doctor! I am one to talk though, I go when I feel like it...skip it when I don't have time.
DeleteGreat that you're making progress on your story! I don't really have a choice on exercise with five dogs. Good thinking time too. Congrats to Ashley - the cover is excellent!
ReplyDeleteGirlfriend, I'm good about gaining weight even though I'm also good about exercising. So, might as well keep gaining and quit the exercise. You have the right idea.
ReplyDeleteAshley's cover is magical. Much success, Ashley!
Love ya, girlie.
My mom has lost about 35 pounds using the My Fitness Pal app. It's a free app that helps you track your calories so you make educated food choices. Diets have never worked for her, and this isn't a diet since she chooses the food. The reason she's lost weight is because the app tracks how much she's eaten and she can use it when she eats out (because it has the calories for lots of menu items at restaurants on the app). Maybe it's something that can help you, too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing your story.
As I've moved through this current period of bad health I've been reminded that so many are worse than I. There is always room for thankfulness.

Here's hoping you'll met some more goals In October. Keeping the goals simple sounds sensible.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your weight loss! I'm also making a new commitment to get back in shape. Hoping to resume using my trek desk so I can walk while editing. It makes a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteThat book looks great. Gorgeous cover!
Give up a TV show?!?! *gasp* I know the horror that idea can strike into one's heart. ;) I definitely need to take myself in hand as well. I'm in the last week or so of my studies and whenever I'm stressed academically, I tend to stuff my face with food AND not do much exercise. Bad combo. ;) So my immediate plan is to stop stuffing my face so much. Then I will get back into walking.
