Go Ahead, Make My Meme
I'm a meme junkie. I love them. I will spend hours reading one after another, saving the ones I like to my hard drive...then I'll share them on social media.
I enjoy my meme hunts so much, it may qualify as an addiction.
And as you know, any good addiction comes with a lot of rationalization.
Here's mine:
Memes are an art form. They're entertainment snippets that can inspire, bring laughter, or move a person to make a personal change. They've worked their way into our culture and one day, historians will be studying our memes as closely as they did political cartoons (so says me).
Memes are easy and cheap to make. They allow anyone to express an opinion and their creativity.
And when used correctly, memes can also be a marketing tool. We all know any content we put on the net becomes fodder for public shares and consumption...or at least we hope it does after we add our name or website to one of our awesome works of art!!
So, here they are, my contribution to C. Lee McKenzie, Christine Rains, and Tara Tyler meme's blog hop!
To amuse...
To inspire...
To encourage...
Thanks to our hosts Lexa, L.G, and Tonja Drecker for this weekly good things check in!
1. Boy #3 was awarded the Presidential Scholarship from WVU. I'm so proud of him. He needed to score a 30 on his ACT to get this. He kept missing it by a point, but on his third try, he got a 31.
2. Boy #4 has agreed to a haircut. I try not to sweat the small stuff, but I was beginning to wonder if I'd have to buy this guy a head band to be able to see with the mop of bangs he was sporting.
3. Boy #2 has a birthday this weekend! He'll be (how much is 1996-2016?) twenty years old!! Oh my.
Celebrations all around and be proud of your boys!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex :)
Deletecongrats on 1 thru 3 :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mac!
DeleteCongrats to all three, being able to see is a plus too haha great memes as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's very important, especially now that he's driving age.
DeleteI loved the first two in your memes. Congrats to the boys and happy birthday. What's boy #4 up to then?
ReplyDeleteI keep telling him he has Justin Bieber hair, you know the sort of feathered bangs look? That's what he's up to. I don't think it's a matter of liking the longer hair as much as hating taking the time to get it cut.
DeleteGreat job on the memes. And congrats to your boys! It's funny when I first read 1996-2016 I thought, he's ten years old, obviously. Then I realized I had left a decade out and felt soooo old. How can 1996 be 20 years ago already?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the birthday weekend!
Isn't it amazing how fast time goes by? People warned me. Young me thought they were crazy.
DeleteThose were great!
ReplyDeleteI'll entertain myself? Oh boy!
Heather
You know moms pay a high price for a few minutes away.
DeleteYAY to all your boys...especially #3. That's a HUGE accomplishment! Go, him!
ReplyDeleteCute memes. I honestly have no idea how to make one. Maybe that's a skill I should learn more about!
They're super easy. I get my images from Dollar Photo Club and then I edit them on Pic Monkey.
DeleteI feel really stupid right now. Meme. I've seen this word tossed around everywhere, but really had no idea what in the world it actually WAS. Turns out it's a picture with words on top. AmIRight??? That's a meme????? Well, okay. I've been enjoying them for years and didn't know it. I really should've googled it sooner. Or at all. Thanks for the blog post saving me the trouble!
ReplyDeleteI never knew what they were called either. I called them Facebook pictures with words forever. LOL
DeleteI love memes, especially funny ones! And go you for thinking of putting your own ones out there with your name on them. Great marketing tool. I hope I can think up some cool ones someday and do that. Huge congrats to boy #3! Tell boy #4 that bangs will get dirt and grease in his eyes, they'll get conjunctivitus, scar up, and fall out. That should get him in the barber's chair quick! Happy Birthday to boy #2!! :)
ReplyDeleteI will pass along the health concerns of longer hair. I'm sure that will convince him ;)
DeleteI love funny memes too. I swear, I could spend whole days reading them. I suppose that's better than the old days when I'd spend hours in the Hallmark store reading all the funny cards.
The memes were fun! Sorry for the vulgar one on FB :) It amused me when I saw it though.
ReplyDeleteNo apology necessary. That was funny. I loved it.
DeleteI LOVE your inspirational meme. The look on that little boy's face is priceless.
ReplyDeleteTalking about little boys, congrats to your son for winning that scholarship. That's quite an achievement. You and your hubby must be very proud. And yeah, I called him a "little boy." They will ALWAYS be our little boys. :)
Yes, they will always be our little boys! I don't see hairy guy with big feet, I alway see the little fellas when I look at them.
DeleteWe are very proud of him. He never gave up. That's impressive.
Hey Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteUp until recently, I had no idea what a meme. However, checking out your memes, I'm liking what I see.
Awesome about your sons. Of course, I'm puzzled that you, young lady, could possibly have a 20 year old son!
Gary :)
I'm puzzled by that too. I think it has something to do with the photo shopping of my profile picture. Hehe.
DeleteThat's wonderful about your sons. Yay on the scholarship and happy birthday weekend to #2. I love memes, especially the funny and inspirational ones
ReplyDeleteI am a meme junkie. I can't jut read one. I'll spend hours reading them.
DeleteCongrats to Boy #3!!! Also, I love the "Mom Relax" meme. UGH. I've only babysat and it's constant vigilance.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right. Got to watch them constantly.
DeleteHehehehe the "Mom Relax" meme made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your sons. Even the one cutting his hair. I know how challenging it can be. ;-)
He was really enjoying his long hair. It's now cut, and I think he looks much handsomer.
DeleteI commented on this, or I thought I did! Love your memes and yay for all the great stuff. :) Have a terrific week.
ReplyDeleteI think my blog is eating comments! And not allowing Donna to comment. I don't know what's up.
DeleteI didn't really know what a meme was to be honest lol!! Gosh, I'm so behind on the times!!

I wouldn't know if I didn't have teens correcting me all the time- Mom, they're not Facebook pictures with words, they're memes!
DeleteI heard that a lot.
That meme with the boy "entertaining" himself brought back some memories! Loved it. You are great at these memes, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you Lee. I don't know who comes up with some of them I find on the net...there are some real meme geniuses out there!
DeleteCongrats to your boys! I love those memes, but the first really tugs my heartstrings. My little one is 13 months old, and I'm actually looking forward to the messes he'll be making soon. The last gave me a bit of chill. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI remember when my boy were little, I had the same thought- I can't wait for all the orneriness and fun. That's a good mindset, because it's coming. Enjoy it. I've had fun with my guys at every age and stage.
DeleteThat first one made me chuckle. I don't have kids but it reminded me of my nephews. Once, one of them got into some paint and tried to eat it. I had to rinse out his mouth and was terrified I'd have to call Poison Control.
ReplyDeleteMy niece was watching boy #4 and he dusted himself in Comet, so she had to call Poison Control. For people with such small hands and short legs, they sure can get into everything fast!
DeleteAwesome! Congratulations! Fun memes.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly!
DeleteYay for all the boys!
ReplyDeletePerfectly said!
DeleteWe're meme junkies too, and your memes did not disappoint. Cheers to the good news all around, and I do have to say, I don't know how boy #4 does it. My hair gets any longer than 2-3 inches and I feel like a dirty, grungy hippie.
ReplyDeleteHe is the youngest, so if this is the level of rebellion we get, we'll take it. I did tell him if it got much longer, I was going to insist he let me curl it and put it in an updo. He wasn't excited by the idea.
DeleteGreat news about your sons! Congratulations to them! I like your memes, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYour memes are hilarious Liz. Perfection can be a huge enemy. So can a kid left alone with finger paint. Don't do it parents. Congrats on your wonderful sons. May they go on achieving no matter what gets in their way. Go Seckman's! :)
ReplyDeleteViruses are perfect. Who wants one of those? It's the unperfect things that we can trust.
DeleteYou rocked those memes, Elizabeth. The second one is adorable and a great marketing graphic for your books. Glad to know about the dart frog, because they looks so interesting and innocent. I won't be fooled the next time one rippits my way. No more kisses for that frog.
ReplyDeleteNever kiss a frog, no matter how cute, without the proper protection. hehe
DeleteYay for the celebrations! And those are great memes. I like your inspirational one. :)
ReplyDeleteKids are awesome. They dare to dream without the interference of reality.
DeleteI LOVE these MEMEs. My favorite is the airplane one, although I can relate to the messy boy entertaining himself. My son and his usual accomplices, the twins, got into everything; Desitin, baby powder, you name it. I enjoyed the blog hop and connecting with bloggers online. I'll be back. Happy birthday to boy #2!
ReplyDeleteIn the amount of time a mom can run to the bathroom, they can dismantle a house. Kids are amazing. Twins? I always wanted twins until I watched my brother raise his. You're a brave mom!
DeleteWonderful celebrations! Congrats and birthday wishes!
ReplyDeleteI love memes, but I've never made one. I think I might need to try one of these days.
I love the "Dream big" one, and the "never trust perfection" one.
My dad used to tell me to always remember, viruses are nature's most perfect creation. I think our imperfections are what make us special.
DeleteYour boys are incredible! You definitely should be one proud mama!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily!!
DeleteI kind of missed that meme hop but I'm sure it was fun. Yours are great! Congrats to your boys. A Presidential Scholarship sounds highly impressive.
ReplyDeleteI miss all kinds of things! I'm surprised I found this one.
