Hints From Heloise
That's said like "ell-o-weese", right?
I had a teacher in high school call her "hell-waus". I corrected him. The class giggled, and he said he hated smart kids. I wasn't too traumatized. Looking back on it, any teacher who had to put up with my hair-brained attitude had a right to say he hated me every now and again.
Anyhow, I'm sharing the link because Heloise knows everything. You have a Housekeeping problem, she has the solution.
Ham made easy!!
Want a delicious, tender ham without a lot of fuss?
Cook it in beer. Be it Heineken or Natty Light, pop a ham in a roaster or a crock pot and cover it in beer, cook all day, and it's delicious.
*Thanks to my alcoholic grandma for this recipe...just joking...that crazy cat lady knew how to hold her liquor.

Cook it in beer - now you're talking!
ReplyDeleteBeer? Hmmm , sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha! I know the feeling about cleaning just to make things "acceptable" - especially now. We've got boxes and stuff everywhere. Ah, but moving gives me an excuse for the mess, doesn't it? Hmm, how long can I use that for...? :)
ReplyDeleteWe always added bear to the water when we cooked shrimp. My Hubzam never heard of this - I had to sneak it in, and when I did - he always thought it tasted better.
ReplyDeleteHam in beer? Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother always called her 'Hel-zees', don't ask me why, lol.
I'm not a beer drinker, but adding beer to meat and dishes adds nice flavor.
ReplyDeleteI'm always apologizing for the mess whenever anyone comes over. Luckily that doesn't happen too often since my apartment is so tiny.
ReplyDeleteI guess beer always makes everything better haha
ReplyDeleteOoooh, we put beer in soup and sauces, and it's always fabulous! Never thought about ham...we usually do coke.
ReplyDeleteHaha I just love that ecard!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried cooking my ham in beer. Something new to try out. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteYum. Beer and ham do sound like a match.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of tricks for cleaning. Like wearing a blindfold and ignoring it!!
ReplyDeleteham cooked in beer sounds yummy!
ReplyDeletecleaning trick - lower the lights and use candles. Makes everything look better. Visiting on a to z. Fun post
ReplyDeleteThe image about having to clean for two hours to apologize for the mess perfectly describes me!
ReplyDeleteDon't often cook ham but what a good idea. I would pronounce it 'elwause' too.
ReplyDeleteForgot, for cleaning just have get well cards around the house and assure people you have been ill.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that ham - well, get the "h" out of Dodge!
ReplyDeleteI'm always looking for a good Crock-Pot ham recipe. So just buy a ham and pour beer over it and that's it? I'm going to have to try it!
ReplyDeleteHam looks delicious! I'll have to remember that the next time we cook it :)
ReplyDeletebetty
That Ham looks amazing. Also, Yes, I have totally cleaned my house for hours just to beg forgiveness for the mess. Sigh, only women....
ReplyDeleteNever would have thought of beer for ham, chicken yes, but not ham! Sounds good... I try never to mention the mess, because I figure if I don't, they wouldn't dare! Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot about cooking beef in beer, and using it in fish batter's quite popular here, but I've not seen it with ham before. I bet it tastes fantastic though, but does it carry with it much of the beer's flavour?
ReplyDeleteI am... not good with cleaning. But then, I think, most people aren't so I feel a bit better when I remember that. The people who're obsessive about cleaning are definitely in the minority. (Though I'll admit to cleaning a lot more when I'm procrastinating... Resisting the urge to clean my desk right now.)
