Anyhow, during most of the show, the baby momma was trying to get the baby daddy to pick up a crib. A free one. He wasn't asked to go work in a rock mine and earn enough money to buy one, he was simply asked to pick up a free one.
But nooo...instead, he hung out all day with his friend. Oh, and he whined...
Poor me. I'm gonna be a daddy in a few months. I should get to play and enjoy myself, not slave over a steering wheel and lug home a donated sleeping spot for my offspring.
How draconian!!
I was like, seriously dude...how lazy and irresponsible are you?!
Well, evidently lazy and irresponsible enough to have neglected to get a condom in the first place.
So, that's the take home message for the day...
Ladies, if he doesn't have the forethought, the cash, or the inclination to show up with a condom- chances are good you'll be picking up your own crib.

There are no words to describe youngsters like that. They are so irresponsible and the sad thing is - there are so many kids taking that attitude today. England is full of them and the state just pays for everything they need. It drives me crazy. Luckily I live in Portugal where kids seem to be a lot more responsible these days.
ReplyDeleteI know plenty of people who have been teen parents, and most all of them grew up and took care of their situation, so the whole time I was watching the show, I was amazed this kid was such an irresponsible slug, but then it occurred to me...duh! Irresponsibility is the root of his problem.

DeleteI was watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians (I know, shame on me!) and Kourtney got pregnant despite the fact that her husband repeatedly told her he didn't want more children. Then, when he didn't take the news well, she made him out to be the bad guy. Recently a survey found that an alarming percentage of women admitted to tricking their husbands/boyfriends into becoming fathers. It's disturbing. I know it's not always the case but it does happen that women intentionally get pregnant with an irresponsible man who has no interest in having children, then make them out to be deadbeat dads when they don't change into the men they were trying to force them to be. It's too bad we can't make both parents pass some sort of test before they can conceive! Of course, our population would probably die off eventually...

DeleteAnd I have personally known women who have done it. Babies aren't toys, pawns, or money makers. That is a decision that should be considered very carefully. And as my mother always said- imagine being saddled with that guy for life, then keep your knees together.
Well, if he wasn't so lazy and irresponsible, then he wouldn't be in the situation to pick up a crib. Sheesh! He really needs to get over himself and think of his child. You can't beat a free crib.

ReplyDeleteAgree. The only reason I'm giving her a bit of a pass is because she was trying to get ready and fully regretted her bad choices. He thought it was an awesome situation, because he was headed out to fish all day while she studied for classes.

Some shows really are just guilty pleasures, aren't they? I usually end up yelling at reality TV but some of them do just grab you. Ones about horrible tropical diseases happening to unsuspecting holidaymakers in particular...
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like the kinda guy who doesn't want to do anything and just wants it to go away, but the minute the momma leaves him and finds herself a better partner who'll look after the baby he'd complain about it! I bet when she found out she was pregnant he swore he'd stick by her too (but only as long as she did all the work!)
And seriously... free crib! Don't those things usually cost a small fortune? Lazy sod. I hope the girl gave him what for.
It is definitely a guilty pleasure. It's the opportunity to numb the mind when the mind is too full of important stuff.

My grandmother had my mother at 17, and I've known plenty of teen parents who were responsible and raised good kids. The difference is accepting that as soon as baby is on the way...it's time to grow up and stop playing.

DeleteSome shows on tv are just that- guilty pleasure. Ridiculous to a fault. Mine to watch (while folding clothes and zoning out) is Shaws of Sunset. It's bloody awful. But I can't help from checking in on it, from time to time. :)
ReplyDeleteI honestly think this generation is too lazy for words. Just pick up the crib you whiny little prat. Seriously, grow up and a set. I cringe to think of what kind of dad this kid will be. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, (especially coming from little ole me) but I have a similar thing going on with people I know. It's so frustrating. You want to shake the heck out of them and tell them it's not all about YOU anymore. Grow the heck up.
Don't even get me started on people, it makes me sound like my grandpa! But lazy, whiny, expect everything for nothing- I could go on and on. People would tell me all the time how "lucky" I am that I have good kids- it's not luck. I am blessed by God to have great souls to work with, but the parenting was always a priority and it was work.

I agree, girls need to be held accountable too, and like Stephanie said, there are those incidents where women do it intentionally. The only reason I gave this girl a pass was that she was working toward doing the best in the situation. There are other couples where it's the girl I want to choke.
Watching shows like that does make you feel better about your own life. I mean, they are the bottom of the barrel.
