Thank you, Elizabeth, for allowing me on your blog.
Sometimes, romance is tough. Take it from Cera, the main character in This World Bites. Throughout the story, she shares her flirting rules, including the one about not killing your potential love interest.
Now, I'm luckier in love than Cera is, but since my wonderful host, Elizabeth, is a romance writer, I thought it'd be appropriate to present my Top 10 Awkward Romantic Moments.
Discloser: My husband and I have been married for 7 years (together for 10). My daughter is 4, and my son is 18 months.
10. *first date attempt - we were co-workers at the time*
Me: I don't think Beverlie can go to the movies with me.
Him: If your friend can't go, I might be able to.
Me: Actually, next on the list is Sarah.
9. *first date success*
Him: Did you want to go see a movie?
Me: What did you have in mind?
Him: The Grudge.
8. Him: *gets down on knee and holds up ring*
*six hours later*
Him: "Oh, uh, I forgot to ask... Will you marry me?"
7. Me: *wanders out in new lingerie* "Hey, my love..."
Him: *at computer* "Just a sec, we're almost done with this raid."
6. Him: "I've got the wine. You got the oysters?"
Me: "I set them on your desk."
Dog: *burp*
5. Him: *strolls into house, flowers in hand*
Daughter: *utterly hopeful puppy-dog eyes* "You brought me flowers, Daddy?"
Him: "Uh, yeah... Happy Mother's Day."
Daughter: "Mama! Daddy brought me flowers!"
4. Me: *smoke alarm blaring in the background* "I made you dinner."
3. Him: "Both kids are asleep, so how about you and I--"
Son: "WAAAAAHHHH!"
Him: "--f*ck."
2. He and I settle into a nice bath. A laptop plays a movie nearby. Candles glow in the dim lighting. Daughter wanders in.
Daughter: "I want a bath too!" *strips*
Him: "Wait. No--"
Daughter: *climbs in* "I like baths."
1. He and I are under the covers. Daughter climbs onto the bed.
Daughter: "I want to be in the middle."
What awkward romantic moments have you had?
Me? I'd have to say any romantic moment prior to adulthood was always more than a bit awkward ;)
I've read This World Bites and loved it. It's a funny, science fictiony fantasy sort of tale with zombies vegan vampires.
Thanks for stopping by Loni!!

What wonderful things happened this week?
* The fabulously sweet Tara Tyler updated my blog header for me. Pretty awesome, right?
* Defying Reason edits are done.
* Christmas decorations are all down and packed away.
* I even managed some exercise time this week!
I love the new blog header! Christmas decorations - I just realized I forgot to pack my village up. Thanks, Elizabeth!!
ReplyDeleteExercising and the Christmas things put away. Those are things worth celebrating. I'm not even there yet!
ReplyDeleteThose were funny. Now I know why I don't have kids. And heck with the raid!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a pro at creating awkward moments. :)
DeleteThanks for having me, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteGreat header! I like it. And yay for edits! And Exercising. And Christmasy take down. You've done a lot so far this year.
Seems like you should keep your door locked Loni.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably a good suggestion. :)
DeleteLOL - Love these!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jo has a point... :P
Yeah, I think she does. :)
DeleteLoni! Those were great. I really like the first one. I mean - ouch!
ReplyDeleteAt least he didn't hold a grudge...oh, wait...
DeleteLol! Darn kids. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHehe, darn kids is right!
DeleteLoni, funny post!! loved it!!. Elizabeth, Sounds great to have edits done!!! Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it!
DeleteLOL, those were too funny. I cracked up at #2. I don't have kids but my cat likes to interrupt things...
ReplyDeleteCats...dogs... they like to know what's going on. :)
Deletebahaha these are awesome, Loni!! and congrats on the edits and exercise, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteHilarious, Loni!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat things to celebrate, Elizabeth. I need to get on that exercise-thing.
Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Deletelmao thankfully the cats aren't that intrusive, they just stare look aliens have landed or something.
ReplyDeleteI think that might be just as disturbing.
DeleteRomance invites a lot of awkward moments. These were good ones.

Tossing It Out
I think the awkward moments allow us to appreciate the smooth ones more.
DeleteLoni, those were hysterical! Thanks for a great laugh. Elizabeth, you're way ahead of me. My Christmas tree is still up, and exercise... what's that? Congrats on the lovely new header!
ReplyDeleteLove your new blog header, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteLoni, that was hilarious and right on! When you have kids, it's hard to find the time to be "romantic." Love it!
So true! My husband and I take time off work and go on dates in the middle of the day. It seems to be the only time the kiddos won't hijack our attention. :)
DeleteVery funny, Loni, and you're very brave to post these. @Elizabeth: My wife insisted we take down the xmas decorations. I wanted to leave them up.
ReplyDelete*stands tall, chest puffed* Bravery is my... uh... made-up middle name!
DeleteOMG - these were a riot! I especially loved #6. Congrats on your new book! Wishing you much success! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S.- I commented on your blog, Loni, but it didn't appear. I may be stuck in your spam!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThank you! And I unspammed you!
DeleteThis sounds very much like my love life. I wouldn't have it any other way ;)
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteI LOVE your header. Pure awesomeness. I just hired a graphic designer on Elance to do a cover photo for me for Facebook. Hopefully it'll turn out okay. (Fingers crossed!)
ReplyDeleteHeh. Our border collies are the worse at interrupting even something as simple as cuddles. The oldest tends to paw at my fiancƩ until he lets go of me (then he tries to get between us), whilst the younger likes to leap onto our bed and snuggle (against me).
ReplyDeleteAnd they're meant to be my father's dogs...
Hehe, our dogs will usually leave us alone, unless we have food. Then there's no getting rid of them. :)
DeleteThose are definitely some awkward moments . . . thankfully we've avoided the kiddos walking in on anything. The key is not to have much of a sex life ;-) hahaha--your book sounds wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, yes, that is the key, isn't it?
DeleteOMG, I've had a few of those awkward romantic moments-- Ugh... Lol. Happy to hear about the edits being done. Yayy!!
ReplyDeleteAll my Christmas stuff is put away too. Of course, Tamera helped me with the boxes and stuff. Good job getting some exercise in there. I'm doing pretty good with the meditation, although it's pretty funny because every now and again Sophie decides she wants to paw-handle me for attention. Geez.
Love you girlie! Have a great night!
ROFL Locks are the friends of married couples. Until they're not--like kids getting locked into a room. But you know what i mean. Great post.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I haven't had any incidents of locked away children...yet.
DeleteSo funny, Loni! I loved reading about your awkward romantic moments. Hilarious! All the best with your book! I love your writing!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHaha! Not much privacy when you have kids, is there?
ReplyDeleteHehe, nope. They seem to always find a way to interrupt. :)
DeleteFun post!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing Loni everywhere and just downloaded the book. Looking forward to reading it.
Hilarious awkwardness! Thanks for sharing all the personal comic relief - life is better with a few laughs! gotta love kids!
ReplyDeleteAnd Liz, the header looks terrific =) My pleasure!
The kids are fun, and make for some memorable moments. :)
DeleteThe wife and I just raid together. I don't know if that's more or less romantic...
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, love the new header. Looks awesome!
Oh, we did that too, for a good number of years.
DeleteI like the updated blog header, Liz!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Loni!
At the moment, she's Queen of the blogosphere. And those snippets are too funny!
Life is funny sometimes and it's good you can laugh about it. Thanks for sharing so the rest of us could smile.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure!
DeleteHad another good laugh, Loni. Thanks for starting Monday with your humor. I'll never tell my most awkward romantic moment. I just won't!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the Small Things still up and running. Miss my Friday posts, but have to cut back somewhere.
I'm so glad I could start out your Monday right. :)
DeleteThanks for the laugh Loni!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting those edits done Elizabeth. And I love the header. Tara did a great job!
These are spectacular. :-D Oh, thank you for sharing these. I needed a laugh today.
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious, Loni. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy most awkward moment was when my dad caught me and my girlfriend making out. I still have nightmares.
Oh my goodness those were definitely awkward and cute and very funny.
ReplyDeleteCaffe Maggieato, Sarah Brentyn, Jay Noel, Cherie Reich - I'm so happy you guys enjoyed the snippets. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Loni always makes me laugh. What a fun post. :D
ReplyDeleteZombies? I need to look into this. Hilarious list! :)
ReplyDeleteI hit my husband's truck on our first date. :D
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Loni, that top ten list is hilarious. And so, so real. That sounds like my life!
ReplyDelete*LOL* Absolutely hilarious! Thankfully my kid never comes out of his room except to pee and then he goes right back in.
ReplyDeleteI nominated you for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award!
ReplyDeleteDaughter is a bot of a romance killer but so adorable. Sorry Loni but never get between a man and a videogame. The Grudge is definitely a bad first date movie choice. Better than Psycho but still. Congrats on your book.
