Bloggers are united on this day to give our vote for best movie remake and worst movie remake.

And the hardy among us will will add the best and worst song remake.

Drum Roll Puhlease....

Worst Remake:

The Pink Panther. There is only one Inspector Clouseau, and he was played by Peter Sellers. As much as I love Steve Martin, he should have stuck with being The Jerk...or King Tut.

Now that was funny. Anyone remember that Saturday Night Live classic?

Or be a wild and crazy guy.

Those roles were funny.

Pink Panther was not.

Let's remember the funnier Steve...

Best Remake:

The Longest Yard. Granted, I am an Adam Sandler junkie (all but Punch Drunk and Spanglish). And I loved Cheeseburger Eddie..."He broked-ed my nose." A much better soundtrack too. I mean come on, Nelly is awesome!

Worst Song Remake:
Sheryl Crowe'Sweet Child O' Mine.

I mean come on...don't try to compete with Axl Rose...even when he's drunk!
Let's let the guys of Guns N' Roses be the last word  note on that.

The Best Song Remake:
Run DMC & Aerosmith's Walk this Way.

Blending genres, boosting Rap (though some might say that's a bad thing...but hey, I have four teenage boys...Rap is alive and well and doesn't make my ears bleed), and relaunching Aerosmith after drugs almost tore the bad apart- this song is a win at all levels!

  1. I saw a few minutes of the remade Pink Panther and that was enough to know that I agree with your take on it.....just terrible.

It's so strange to think it was the same guy who did the awesome "King Tut" :)

    1. It was really bad. When it came out, my four boys were little...even they didn't ask to watch it again...which was highly unusual for my kids!

  2. How about astronaut Chris Hadfield's redo of of David Bowie's song? In space?

    1. Now that WAS awesome. How fair is that? To be a genius astronaut and vocalist?

  3. Oh yes - I totally agree on the Pink Panther. Terrible. Just terrible.

    1. Maybe Peter Sellers just had the bar set too high.

  4. So sad when movies go wrong. Best song remake ever, Whitney Houston singing 'I will always love you.'

    1. I didn't even realize that was a remake. Whitney had a voice that was beyond compare.

  5. DUDE-ette!

CyberSis... we chose the same movie, or at least one :)

That Pink Panther was just a bit too frizzy for me, know what I mean, like :)

      Don't worry, you're secrets are safe ;)

  6. Can't compete with Guns 'n' Roses!
Sellers was the only one who could play that role. Won't even bother with the remake.
Thanks for participating in our blogfest!

    1. My pleasure Alex! Guns N Roses is in my top ten of best bands of all time. So sad they couldn't keep it together.

  7. Great choices. I stinking loved Adam Sandler and Chris Rock in The Longest Yard. I couldn't stop laughing. They did a fab job.

And I'm not a fan of Sheryl Crow to begin with, but yeah, that was just an awful mistake.

    1. I'm not a Cheryl Crow fan either. Honestly, not got a big list of female singers I like.

  8. The more blogs I visit the more I realize Steve Martin did A LOT of Remakes! I haven't The Longest Yard. I should get on that :)

  9. Ooh, both of your "best" choices are awesome!

  10. Run DMC & Aerosmith's Walk this Way was a historic moment in music. One of the best videos ever.

    1. That video was classic. I am a huge Aerosmith fan and I remember some of my friends said that remake would be the death of the band, but it launched them into a boom in the 90's. Awesome stuff from some very talented men!

  11. And then Girls Aloud and The Sugababes remade Walk This Way *shakes head* It was dire and shouldn't have been allowed.

  12. OK I actually liked The Pink Panther remake, but I had to look at it like its own movie. You're right, Peter Sellers was the master of funny with this character. But Martin's version was a fun movie to take the kids to and got a couple laughs out of us.

    1. It's hard to like something a lot (like I did the old Pink Panthers) and then appreciate the remake.

  13. Best song remake is definitely Dylan's Hard Rain's Gonna Fall by Jason Mraz! Sorry to disagree with your selection, but this one definitely tops the cake.

    1. Haven't heard Jason Mraz's remake of that, but I am going to go find it right now!

    2. I've never heard that either, I'll have to check it out!

  14. Nice picks! I especially like your song choices. :)

  15. Love the Aerosmith/Run DMC song! I hadn't ever seen the video before so thanks for sharing.
Nobody can outshine Peter Sellers as the Inspector. That was his iconic role.

    1. I saw a making of the video and the busting through the wall wasn't intended, Steven Tyler just went for it.

  16. Yeah Pink Panther was not very good.

I love both versions of the longest yard! It was pretty awesome to see Nelly in the movie and hear him in the soundtrack :)

    1. Nelly did do a great job and it was neat that Burt Reynolds was in the second one also.

  17. I'm seeing those two crop up a lot, so now I might have to try out the Longest Yard.

    1. It's a good movie. Both are good, the second is my favorite.

  18. The Pink Panther was horrible! And I was horrified when Crow did that remake of one of my favorite Guns 'n Roses songs.

  20. I didn't see the new Pink Panther. I used to watch the Peter Sellers ones with my Dad. So I didn't want to tarnish that memory. I remember Steve on SNL. He's a good writer, too. I read his novella, Shop Girl. I agree with you about Walk this Way. Still a snazzy song... well, rocking is a better adjective.

    1. I should have passed on the new Pink Panther too.

I forgot Steve was a writer. I think some of the screen plays were written by him.

  21. Gotta agree about that Sheryl Crowe remake. Some things make me cringe and that was high on the list.

  22. Just like you, I'm Adam Sandler's fan. And I like Steve Martin too but thought Pink Panther really stank. That King Tut video is funny. :) Thanks for participating!

    1. I think that is the biggest problem- Peter Sellers owned that role and anyone else in it couldn't compare.

  25. I agree... NO other Pink Panther ....

    Have a wonderful weekend Elizabeth.

A note: I finally finished up opening my mail ... Thank you SO MUCH for both your wonderful books. You are so kind and generous. Once I read them It would be my pleasure to write a review. It may take a bit of time though, so many OTHER obligations. There's just NEVER enough time.

  26. I love the Guns N Roses Sweet Child O' Mine! I would have to say that anyone who has ever remade Landslide by Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac should have their shins kicked. Some things are not meant to be remade!

  27. I love that Aerosmith song.

Sheryl shouldn't have Sweet Child O' Mine.

    I agree about Peter Sellers.

  28. I did not know Sheryl Crowe had done that. That's awful! And I love Aerosmith - in fact it was that song that first made me away of them... I'm just a baby really :-)

  32. There's an even-worse remake of "Sweet Child o' Mine" now. Some London children's choir remade the song for some generic ad by Johnson and Johnson. Seriously, who associates GNR with children, babies, and families?

    1. OMGosh...seriously? I am so glad I missed that!

I can imagine it now...babies with long, dirty hair and head bands rocking out with other little guys with masses of hair topped with cool hats!

  34. Hey Elizabeth!

Oops and so extremely sorry that it's taken me this long to get to your posting. You know how it is, what with my adoring fans and Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar's adoring fans, begging for autographs!

Elizabeth, another blogfest? Say it aint so! Anyway, I do heartily concur with your best and worst movie remake choices. I still maintain that the remake of "Bambi meets Godzilla" is a must-see classic.

Maybe Gun's N' Roses should do a remake of "If it makes you happy."

I love that version of "Walk this way!"

    Your starstruck fan,

    Gary :)

Yes, it's another blogfest. I am a festival tramp. Can't turn any of them down.

Bambi meets Godzilla? Sounds like a Disney classic!

And I'm all for them remaking any Crow song...they are the masters of the trade!

  35. You're so right: Sheryl Crow could never touch Guns N' Roses. She shouldn't have tried.

    Thanks for the blitz!
