Happy Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving season, I'm settling in for a different sort of chaos now that all the children are grown-ups. I've traded the rowdiness of boys for the chaos of juggling adult kids with adult schedules. There's airline runs, a missed flight to reschedule, and grandcats to watch. When I say cats, I mean three active kittens. And one dog who's used to quiet and isn't a fan of late-night kitten playtime in the basement.
That might sound like me complaining, but I assure you; I'm not. I was born to chaos. As the youngest of five children and the mother of four, life is best when it's busy.
Did someone just think...that woman's crazy?
Pah. Hardly. I am so sane, I could put Rorshach to sleep. Not to brag, but I'm pretty good at going with the flow. Mostly because I'm too lazy to go against the currents. I'm like water; the slow-moving kind that follows along the natural path. That's adaptability. And you know what they say about adaptability. It's the mark of good mental health.
Speaking of adaptation, this year I'm flexing those skills in the kitchen. Walmart was out of cranberry sauce, so I bought the actual berries. (Now, you can rightly think I'm crazy. You and I both know I'm not a cook!)
I'm going take a crack at homemade sauce, though I don't have a freaking clue what I'm doing. If blogger Jo was still with us, she'd surely have read this and then sent advice and recipes to my inbox...all perfectly edited down to my basic-cook skill level.
That's another special part of the holidays. Enjoying the memories and the connections our traditions have with those no longer with us.
And the turkey and mashed potatoes. Those are important too. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI am just the opposite - not a fan of crowded chaos.
Good luck with the cranberry sauce. Jo would indeed know what to do.
Yes, she would have. Knowing her, she probably never ate the stuff from the can.
DeleteHope you enjoyed.

ReplyDeleteHomemade cranberry sauce is one of the easiest things to make. Was it good?
