This post is coming to you from the editing cave. They're taking me longer than I thought they would take to finish. The motivations are erratic and the end is too fast and too long. That makes me wonder if there are too many subplots, too many loose ends? Maybe the fun and games in the middle needs an ax? I don't know. But I do know my brain isn't focused on blog posts, but on plot renovations.
If you could choose one author, living or dead, to be your beta partner,
who would it be and why?
Even with my addled edit brain, it only took me about two seconds to come up with my answer:John Steinbeck
His writing is genius. It's gritty and beautiful. He is the master of exposing humanity with stories filled with eccentric characters, vivid imagery, and stories that feel real. He also enjoyed a good party and was quite the handsome devil...though that would have NO bearing on my choice, me being a happily married woman and all.
Thanks to this month's awesome co-hosts! PJ Colando, J Lenni Dorner, Deniz Bevan, Kim Lajevardi, Natalie Aguirre, and Louise - Fundy Blue!

I LOVE Steinbeck. I've read and own many of his books. He inspires me to write.

Just focus on those plot renovations.
ReplyDeleteKeep editing, keep editing! You can do it, little camper.
ReplyDeleteYes. Genius choice.
ReplyDeleteWow! Great choice for a beta partner, for all the reasons you listed. :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on sorting out the editing.
I used to read a lot of Steinbeck as a teen. Good luck with those revisions.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice and best of luck with your edits!
ReplyDeleteEast of Eden is one of my top all-time favorite books. His ability to put the reader right smack into every detail of the scene was, indeed, genius.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the editing!
Good choice. Your edits sound intense - I hope you get them how you want them soon!
ReplyDeleteOooo...Steinbeck would be one too big for me. I'd be too embarrassed. Maybe because he is so wonderful. Good luck on those edits!!!
ReplyDeleteThose realists knew how to nail a story! Thumbs up on Steinbeck.
ReplyDeleteA great choice indeed and edit away at your bay!
ReplyDeleteHi, Elizabeth! Steinbeck is an awesome choice. His "East of Eden" and "Grapes of Wrath" haunt me to this day. Good luck with your editing. Happy September!
