January IWSG: News & Cover Reveal
The IWSG is on the list again as one of the best places for writers on the web! Check it out here, along with the other 99 top sites for 2020.
Join the IWSG I'm still suffering from post-holiday confusion. Getting back to normal is a lot of work. Has anyone seen where I stashed my shoes during that last-minute holiday tidy-up? I can't to find them anywhere. The confusion around me is bleeding into my writing life. I keep pushing deadlines and promising to get my stuff together tomorrow. Or the next day.
But I did finally get to The End of my next novel and thanks to the creative genius of Carrie Butler, the story has an amazing cover.

Inquiring minds want to know...
What started you on your writing journey? I have to give that credit to my mom. I was always a story scribbler, but she was the one who declared writing was something I could and should do. She bought me my first typewriter at a flea market when I was twelve. It's one of those relics in the black case.
One day, I'll have an office and I'll pull it out of storage and give it the adoration it's due.
Don't forget!!!

Many thanks to the awesome co-hosts for the January 8 posting of the IWSG! T. Powell Coltrin, Victoria Marie Lees, Stephen Tremp, J.H. Moncrieff!
Happy IWSG Day. Yep. Still trying to get back into routine myself. We had quite a hit to our immune systems, but overall the holidays were fantastic. The cover is wonderful! Looks like we both got started by the same tool :)
ReplyDeleteWe were so lucky to dodge the viruses going around this holiday season. MAybe we'd built immunity to them all from the years before.
DeleteWhat a beautiful cover! My challenge is trying to shift to my new (slower) writing schedule. Somehow, I seem as busy as ever. lol
ReplyDeleteMy grandma always said if you want something done, ask the busiest person you know. Some people are just really good at getting things done.
DeleteI love that you still have that original typewriter! It definitely needs to be displayed. Fabulous cover too!
ReplyDeleteIt's still in storage. I need to sell some books and build myself a big office.
DeleteWho needs shoes?! Stay home, eat chocolate, write. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat cover - love the colors!
I LOVE how you think!
DeleteCarrie does amazing covers!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed you still have that old typewriter.
Every few years I will declutter and get rid of stuff, but I can never part with the old girl.
DeleteI love this cover, and the title!!! Wishing you much success in 2020!!! After stashing away all my decorations, I keep finding something here and there that I missed. Still working on getting myself and the house put together...
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLast year, I put everything away but then realized I had left out all the lights, so I boxed them up and stuck them in later. This year, we got out the decorations and I couldn't remember what I did with the lights and had to buy new ones. Found the old ones putting away the new ones. Ugh.
Oh wow what a fantastic cover!! Love it. And how cool you still have that typewriter. I am glad that I no longer have to use them but the vintage typewriters always give me the warm fuzzies.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the release of your new book!!
Carrie does amazing work!
DeleteThose typewriters were a huge pain in the butt to use. I remember getting one with the correction tape in college and thought that was high tech.
It's a beautiful cover.
ReplyDeleteSadly we got rid of our old typewriter about 15 years ago.
I have no idea what I will do with mine, but I can't part with it. My kids can toss it when I'm gone.
DeleteThat cover is amazing! Best of luck to your book's success. P.S. I still have two of my typewriters. One is a VERY old manual. The other is an electric.
ReplyDeleteTeresa
Thank you!
DeleteI did toss my old electric typewriters. I've been through a lot of them, but only keep my first.
That is a stunning cover! Congratulations on reaching THE END!
ReplyDeleteThanks for including info on the book club. :)
Thank you, Chrys!
DeleteI'm always happy to add the book club- my problem is remembering what all I need to add to shout outs.
Carrie is amazing with covers. Looks great, congrats on your new book! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks David!
DeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI like your cover. Congratulations on getting to the end of your new novel.
Wishing you all the best for the new decade.
Shalom aleichem,
Pat G @ EverythingMustChange
Blessings on the new decade for you too.
DeleteLove your cover! That's a huge accomplishment to finish a novel. I hope to do that this year. And hope you find those shoes.
ReplyDeleteThey were in the basement. lol
DeleteYou will finish the book!!
Go moms! A lot of moms are getting credit today. Yay! Love the book cover too. I'm sure those shoes will shoes up....after you find something else to wear, get home, and kick them off. LOL
ReplyDeleteI did find the shoes and am currently lounging in stocking feet. Following your advice.
DeleteMoms are awesome people.
Congratulations on the new book, the cover is fabulous! Moms are pretty awesome that way, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteMoms are great cheerleaders.
DeleteThat is a great cover indeed. Congrats. Great that your mom pushed you to write away too.
ReplyDeleteMoms want us to be happy. That's their super power.
DeleteThat is a gorgeous cover! Congratulations. How nice of your mom. And I'm so glad we don't have to type on those anymore. Can you imagine?
ReplyDeleteI don't have to imagine. I remember typing on it. It was a nightmare!
DeleteThat is a great cover. Congrats. I didn't see your shoes!
ReplyDeleteNice of you guys to care so much about the shoes. That proves this is a group with a lot of helpful consideration.
DeleteLove love love the cover! Also love (and envy) that your mom encouraged your writing. Despite a successful law career, raising a family, and caring for my hubs, my mother still never misses an opportunity to point out that my novel STILL isn't published.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful cover. Carrie is good like that.
DeleteIf it helps, my mom would nag at me to. She didn't quite understand the business end of the writing. She told me once that she thought I could sell more books if I asked Oprah to make it one of her book club books. W@ell duh.
And wowsers. You have a LOT to be proud of already. I'm jealous!
Happy IWSG day! That really is a gorgeous cover, well done to your artist!
ReplyDeleteI had made a joke about adding a butterfly, then started thinking- a butterfly would be perfect for the story.
ReplyDeleteMom knows best. Happy Friday.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Happy Monday :)
DeleteSuper congrats on getting to The End - again. That is awesome news and Carrie, as always, has done a rock star job on that cover!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, she did!
DeleteGreat cover! Looking forward to reading the book--sounds intriguing. Was wondering what you've been up to, now I see! Miss ya!
ReplyDeleteMiss you too! (I'm going to start dropping in on WednesdayWrants whenever I can.)
DeleteThat will be so cool to display the typewriter your mom gave you in your writing office. I hope its soon. I am making the rounds late. Happy IWSG!
ReplyDeleteThat's the plan. Right now, my "office" is a desk in the hallway, but I may take over the whole hallway eventually.
DeleteCongratulations on finishing your novel, Elizabeth. The cover is beautiful! I love that your mother bought you a typewriter to write your stories on and that you still have it. Happy writing in 2020!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI love this cover! Is this tied into Second Chances? Is it out? Detes please.
ReplyDeleteIt is Second Chances. My reader group voted to change the title. They're a smart group!
DeleteSo many interesting topics here. Outstanding book cover. Congrats on your upcoming release! My mom got me going on writing too. And the typewriter is the frosting on the cake. That truly is an antique. Show that to a teen these days and ask them how it works. That would be funny. Best wishes on your new release! JQ Rose
ReplyDeleteI should show it to a teen. My guys were baffled by a rotary phone- imagine a manual typewriter!
DeleteCongrats! Very striking cover. And your mum sounds fantastic for encouraging you at such an early age.
