Remake Fest!

Hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh and Heather M. Gardner.

Remakes – most of them suck. Now and then, one comes along that is as good as, if not better, than the original. And after all of the bad ones we’ve endured, we want to know about some good ones.

Today, November 13, 2017, blog about your favorite remake: movie (or television show into movie and vice versa), song, or book – or all three! Post a YouTube video and links where we can find these treasures. Tell us why THIS remake doesn’t suck!

***************

As a kid, my very most favorite TV time was the always too-few minutes spent with Diana Prince, AKA Wonder Woman.

I was excited to hear there was going to be a remake, but I held my breath. I couldn't imagine anyone but Linda Carter as Wonder Woman.

She was simply perfect.

Now, I won't go so far as to say the remake is better (I would never dis Linda like that!), but it doesn't suck. It was actually pretty doggoned awesome. Gal Gadot did the Amazon princess justice (pun intended).

Since I'm walking down memory lane, I must add Isis to the post. I asked for a Wonder Woman doll for Christmas. My mom used Christmas lists more as a general guideline than a literal construct of what should be under the tree come Christmas morning.
I have no idea if it Wonder Woman was sold out or if my mom found Isis in the discount bin and decided she was good enough, but on Christmas morning, I got an Isis doll instead of Wonder Woman. I was all tears, but then my big brother told me having an Isis doll when everyone else had Wonder Woman was unique.
I liked the idea of being unique.
Isis became my new favorite toy and another superhero TV show to add to my watch list.

  1. Yeah, you have to admit the movie was rather amazing. I watched the old television show. And the cartoons. DC fan until the end.
Thanks for participating in the blogfest!

    1. Now to fix up Wonder Woman and Superman...no offense to Lois Lane, but they're a perfect match up!

  2. I only remember watching the old show once in awhile.

I think it was awesome of your brother to say that about being unique. :)

    1. I was a lucky kid. Most of my siblings were teens when I was little and they offered lots of different perspectives on life.

  3. Haven't seen the Wonder Woman film yet. I think I used to watch the TV show sometimes, but I couldn't say for sure. It was never on my regular viewing schedule, but back then I wasn't watching much TV at all.

    1. I never missed it. The Hulk was another show I'd never miss. Back in the day, when we'd mark TV shows on the calendar to make sure we didn't forget.

  4. I never considered a movie being a remake of a TV show, but that makes sense.

  5. I'm still waiting to see the new Wonder Woman!
I've heard great things. I don't recall Isis, but that would be cool.

  7. Aw, Linda Carter - took my breath away, watching that intro again. I wanted to be her. Didn't you? Those gorgeous eyes and body, with boobies that only bounced a little bit when she ran, perfectly small waist, immaculate makeup even after attacking the bad guys. Sigh. I don't need to see the movie, especially because you posted the intro.
    Thank you, Elizabeth.
    Hugs.

    1. You know, the thing I wondered most as a kid was where did her clothes go when she spinned to change? I never really thought much about the hair and make-up. That seemed to be par for the course in movies and Hollywood. I realized pretty young that there wasn't a single June Cleaver in my neighborhood. Not one mom cleaned in pearls and high heels. But that's why make-believe is fun...it's a break from reality.

  8. Nothing at all against Lynda Carter, but I, too, loved the Wonder Woman movie. Great choice for the blogfest today!

  9. The first time I watched the new Wonder Woman I was disappointed, BUT, the 3rd time I was impressed and won over. I really liked Lynda Carter. I had to get over my attachment to the old. I think they did a great job with new one. One of the best in the Marvel series of movies now.

I have never seen that Isis show so need to go look it up as I love all mythology based stuff like that. Xena Warrior Woman is one of my faves.

    1. I have to admit...I almost watched the movie as if it was Lynda's offspring instead of her replacement. I'm weird like that.

  10. Sure was a really good movie indeed. I've seen a few episodes of the old show. Never even heard of the Isis show before.

  15. I don't remember Isis, but I loved the original Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot definitely did it justice and brought her into current times.

  16. Oh I LOVE this post, Elizabeth! I loved Wonder Woman as a kid too but I must admit, I never heard of the Isis TV show - it was great to see the trailer though. The style of TV shows back then was quite funny, wasn't it. Well, not then. It is now! The new Wonder Woman movie was brilliant – I'd definitely say it was AS good as the original. I've been trying to think of something else remade that was better but I'm struggling!

  19. Wow. I'd never even heard of the "Isis" show. Then again, it came out before I was born. So did Lynda Carter's "Wonder Woman," but I've at least seen some of those in reruns. I did enjoy the movie this past summer, too.

    1. Rub it in how young you are! LOL. The Isis show was on in the afternoon. Back in the day, there weren't channels devoted to kid's TV, but in the afternoon, after the soaps and before the news, they would run kid shows. Isis was one in the line up.

  25. Elizabeth,
I see what you mean by Superman and Wonder Woman being a perfect match, but then what about Clark Kent and Lois Lane?
The other thought is what about the fact that sometimes opposites attract? I think the best example of that would be the old TV show, Remington Steele. I loved the show, but of course that might have had something to do with Pierce Brosnan's sexy eyes and smile, and my youth back then explains a lot as well. :-)
It sounds like you had a wonderful family. No wonder you are so talented. You had a lot of inspiration around you. :-)

    1. I remember Remington Steele! Or how about Moonlighting? Great opposites attracting story line.

I don't know what it is about Lois. I should be a fan, but I'm not. Maybe I just like Diana Prince too much.
