Be My Bloggy Valentine
How can I call myself a romance writer and NOT post on Valentine's Day?So, my dearest blogosphere Valentines, this is for you...
I believe that love is the answer to all dilemmas, but romance is best determined by the amount of tread on my snow tires.
Shall I explain?
Our first year of marriage, my husband got me car tires as my gift.
Did I strangle him? No. I assumed he just wanted me to always get home safely.
Yeah, I know. He's a lucky man.
I have a Valentine treat for you too. Sorry, it's not car tires. Melanie Shulz of Black and White Publishing turned my short, a prequel to my first book, Past Due into a uBook!
What's a uBook? It's the story set to video and placed on You Tube.
The prequel was the beginning. The story continues with Past Due, which is on sale!

~I'll be picking my son up from the airport on Friday. Yay!!
~His two younger brothers will be coming home from Morgantown for the weekend too. Another Yay!!

Tires are a need after all, keep putting the mileage on them.

Wonderful! My hubs has never purchased snow tires for me for Velentine's Day. We used to go on a movie date night - which we will probably do at home this year.

We haven't done date night since our kids figured out we were seeing movies without them. Date night quickly turned into a family outing- which turned out to be a lot of fun.
DeleteX gave me a set of pots and pans for Christmas one year. I had to educate him about appropriate gifts. Willy Dunne Wooters does nice things for me all the time, so there's no pressure when holidays come around.

DeleteI find your books very romantic! Maybe I'm a little more on the realistic side of romance, too, though? My stepdad bought my mom a grill for their 1st wedding anniversary. He's British, so he doesn't know how to use an outdoor grill...and she certainly doesn't know how to use one. She found that the oddest gift, but he's not much of a romantic!
ReplyDeleteAww, well thank you. I was beginning to wonder...I am more inclined to romantic funnies over the heartfelt stuff. But they're quick posts-- it's tough to properly put love in a nutshell, unless it's funny.
DeleteSnow tires eh? That's a new one. After so many years, we don't exchange gifts but we did go out to dinner last night. It was good. I did ask a guy if I could be his Valentine today, he was buying a fluffy bear and a box of chocolates LOL He thought it was funny. Should I be insulted?

DeleteWe didn't do gifts, but I did get chocolate. I mean, if there is a reason to get chocolate, I am taking advantage of it.
We had school cancelled last week due to the large amount of illnesses. Our homeschool group only meets once a week (Wednesday) and we had our Valentine's Party planned last week, but in view of all the sick kids - we decided to do it this week.
ReplyDeleteEvery mom I know mentioned the fact that we'd probably find candy and cards discounted. Whoo-hoo! I hang with a loyal, albeit TIGHT, group.
Happy Valentine's Day...deeply discounted, but no less heart-felt.
My son has been sick for days. He went back to school today. I'm not sure it was a wise move, but he didn't want to miss any more and fall further behind.
DeleteThanks for the reminder. I need 1/2 price chocolate. My hubby is building me a house for Valentines day. Very romantic. But stringing wires in 30 degree weather is not the funnest way to spend V-day.

DeleteWow, that is a pretty great gift. Last time I had a car that needed snow tires, those things ran like $1,000 total. Who'd have thought that fine jewelry would be cheaper?

That is true. Tires are never cheap. And you can wear one around your neck if you want to be really flashy. Sort of the industrial Flava Flav look.

DeleteI think the value of a gift depends on the spirit in which it's given. Some people say you should never give a wife anything with an electrical plug on it, but those have been some of my favorite gifts. Like when my hubby gave me a coffee grinder and some super good whole beans, it showed he knew me, and didn't care what "people" say. When your hubby gave you new tires, it showed he valued your safety. It doesn't get more romantic that that. Plus, ANYTHING that comes along with chocolates is always a fantastic gift.
ReplyDeleteYou're always the wisest. One year I got a weed eater and his friends made fun of him for it, but it was actually #1 on my list. It was perfect. Not too big or too small, just the right kind for me.
DeleteI never heard of ubooks before, but I think it's a clever idea and really liked the music at the beginning (sorry I don't have 35 min to watch all.) Tires, huh? As a wedding present 15 yrs ago, my latest hubs got me a blender. I cried. As the years went on and I realized there were no jars of ready-made pasta sauce here and I had to make my own, I grew to love that darned blender. Have a great weekend!

I love your reaction to your husband buying you tires. I appreciate practical gifts. My hubby has it easy, too. He takes me to a bookstore and lets me run wild. SO much cheaper than diamonds.
