Good Friday
Today is Good Friday.
As a kid, I thought Good Friday was the worst named holiday ever.
"Why is it good?" young me asked.
Jesus was crucified today.
Hmm. Well, that sucks. Doesn't seem to be anything good about that.
"It is good," adults assured. Jesus had to die to be resurrected.
I suppose. But what about the floggings, the public ridicule, and nails through the hands and feet?
That hardly seemed fair...certainly wasn't good.
He was innocent. He did nothing wrong.
Older me has come to logically accept that life isn't fair.
And that bad things happen to good people.
Prayers for the suffering in our world.
Today is the cover reveal for Chrys Fey's first novel!
BLURB: An Internal Affairs Investigator was murdered and his
brother, Donovan Goldwyn, was framed. Now Donovan is desperate to prove his
innocence. And the one person who can do that is the woman who saved him from a
deadly hurricane—Beth Kennedy. From the moment their fates intertwined, passion
consumed him. He wants her in his arms. More, he wants her by his side in his
darkest moments.
Beth Kennedy may not know everything about Donovan, but she
can’t deny what she feels for him. It’s her love for him that pushes her to do
whatever she has to do to help him get justice, including putting herself in a
criminal’s crosshairs.
When a tip reveals the killer's
location, they travel to California, but then an earthquake of catastrophic
proportions separates them. As aftershocks roll the land, Beth and Donovan have
to endure dangerous conditions while trying to find their way back to one
another. Will they reunite and find the killer, or will they lose everything?

Here's an update on my balanced goals for 2016!
1. Lose weight. I lost ground on this one this week.
2. Declutter rooms to declutter the mind. I did take a load of excess to Goodwill
3. Publish two books. Working hard getting Swept Away ready...blame lack of exercise on the book.
The boy were home for spring break. It's always fun to have them home. Though after bragging on them last week, I had to feel like God was humbling me...
Picked them up on Friday. They fought over who had to pump the gas when we stopped for a fill up. One ate another's left over pizza and there was a day of anger and spitefulness in retaliation.
But, they're still here. I still love them. Even when they're prone to butthole-ish behavior.
Chrys' cover rocks.
ReplyDeleteI think I wondered that when I was younger as well. Still doesn't seem good, but we could be saved no other way.
Have a Blessed Easter!
You're right. It should be "Good for Us Friday" :)
DeleteIt's Good that Jesus Redeemed us, our Savior. I always had trouble with that too. My priest can explain it better.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!!!!!
If I had to rely on myself to get life right, I'd be in sooo much trouble!!
Deletehaha yeah, I asked that too. No good seemed to come due.
ReplyDeleteIt could use a better name. Sounds rather selfish of us.
DeleteKids will be kids. They are still good ones though Liz. A very happy Easter to you and all your family, buttholes or not.
ReplyDeleteSome days I want to choke them, but I always love them.
DeleteHope the family has a pleasant Easter weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mac! I hope yours was enjoyable.
DeleteMy hubby's struggling to lose weight too. Since he has the self-discipline of a three-year-old, he's lost nothing in the past month and his weight is affecting his back, sciatica, and overall health. But what're you gonna do about a spoiled man who thinks he should just be able to take a pill to lose weight and not make any actual effort? Good luck with the new novel. I'm sure you can get 2 done this year! Congrats to Chrys on her new release!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lexa. But it's actually not out yet. The eBooks are up for pre-order though. :)
DeleteYour hubby and I think alike. I'd love to have a magic bullet or pill. Sigh. So unfair. I imagine Heaven is a place with calorie-free chocolate. That would be good.
DeleteI hope you have a great Easter, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this post with your readers. I really appreciate it. Just one little thing...you got my emails mixed up. Today is the cover reveal. (Print books aren't available yet, the eBooks are up for pre-order though). April 22nd is the release for the A to Z S-post promo. ;)
Sorry again about that, Chrys! One thing I can always count on is that I screw things up periodically.
DeleteCongratulations to Chrys. I am so looking forward to reading Seismic Crimes!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had the same thoughts as a child, Elizabeth and asked those very same questions :) Have a lovely Easter weekend!
Thank you, Nicola!!! :D
DeleteI hope your Easter weekend went well.
DeleteI agree...not so much good about that, is there? It's quite disturbing. People like to forget about that little fact. But I think it's just another day to be thankful for all we have thanks to His sacrifice.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. We've glossed over the sacrifice with bunnies and lilies. I couldn't have done what He did. Not with a good heart.
DeleteCongrats, Chrys!
ReplyDeleteI stepped on the scale this week and saw a few extra pounds suddenly pop up too. Grrr.
Have a great weekend!
Thank you! :)
DeleteOh, I hate that!!! I never hop on and get surprised by a few pounds unexpectedly gone.
DeleteHave a great holiday weekend. Enjoy family time during spring break.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading Chrys' book.
Thanks, Medeia! When it comes out, I hope you enjoy it. :D
DeleteI did have a good holiday. It was paired with spring break, so I got to have some time to relax with my guys.
DeleteBeautiful reasons to celebrate, Elizabeth. And congrats on the cover, Chrys! Good luck with your continued goals! Happy Easter to you and your family ~Lori~
ReplyDeleteLori's CtST @ As the Fates Would Have It
Thank you so much, Lori!
DeleteThanks Lori! I hope yours was wonderful as well.
DeleteLove the introductory picture. Spring for sure!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, Elizabeth and Chrys!
Ditto on the great cover! The story'll be awesome too, I've no doubts!
Boys so competitive. Hope they make Easter fun. No chocolate bunnies if they don't behave! LOL
Thanks, Yolanda! Happy Easter! :)
DeleteHehehehe my health goals always take a knock in the face of my publishing activities.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a blessed Easter.
I know, right? If I do well with the word count, I'm getting fatter. If I do well with the exercise, my word count nose dives. Ugh. I need balance.
DeleteHope you have a great Easter - we were always told Good came from God so God Friday made more sense as a child! Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace
ReplyDeleteI like that. When I was little, I thought we should flip the order- let Friday be Easter and the day He arose be Good Sunday. Then my brother blew my tiny mind with the idea that He didn't necessarily get resurrected on a Sunday...it was an arbitrary date.
DeleteI always thought the exact same thing, Elizabeth. It just never made any sense to me whatsoever. If I had been religious, perhaps it would have made more sense to me!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, Sweetie :)

I suppose. I've never been good at theology.
DeleteThe world is definitely in need of prayer at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWeight loss is long term - over the course of a year, the odd blip makes little difference. (I'm around for professional help if you need it ;-) )
We definitely could use some prayers!!
DeleteYou're so right. I should be bugging you...what have I been thinking?!
I always questioned the word Good when it came to this day. I remember asking that question in church when I was a kid. How could it be good if someone got killed? I don't remember the answer.
ReplyDeleteMost everyone goes with the- it's good for us. At least that's what I recall. It was the fulfilling of the prophesy and our salvation. Still. Wasn't so good for Jesus.
DeleteYay for Chrys! I'm still battling my weight loss too. Easter chocolates didn't help.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get chocolate for myself, so I only had what I stole from the children. LOL
DeleteA lovely post, Elizabeth! I agree with you about the young us, thinking Good Friday was definitely not good! A few years ago, when I began hearing the term "Black Friday" for the day after Thanksgiving...I immediately thought "Now, THAT'S what Good Friday should be called!"...and maybe the other one be called "Crazy Shopping Friday!" I love your goals for the Goal blog hop. I'm going to participate in that next time it comes around. I could make your #1 and #2 be at the top of my list, too. I'm "trying" to lose weight...and not doing very good..and I'm definitely working on the decluttering...definitely for more room and storage AND for my mind!
ReplyDeleteI hope to stop by much more often. I can't seem to get into the swing of blogging, although I AM posting much more now, I just need to also do the reading and commenting on others'!
Yous should stop by more often! I love hearing from you. I think you can join the hop any time. Just add your name to the list and get started.
DeleteBlack Friday would be a better name. And a better reminder of the sacrifice.
I think many of us question why killing someone is considered good. We just need to keep the context of why he died in mind.
ReplyDeleteI lost ground on the weight loss front too. I went a bit overboard on the corn chips this past weekend. >_<
I love corn chips. They are so good. BBQ corn chips are just so perfect.
DeleteI've always wondered about the name as well.
ReplyDeleteSomebody was being selfish when they picked the name- that's for sure.
DeleteLove the two images on Chrys' cover - very nice.
ReplyDeleteI also love your initial sentiment about Good Friday and good people.
Virtual hugs, my dear.
Virtual hugs back to you. (((Robyn)))
DeleteThe title Good Friday confused and horrified me as a child, too. It still strikes me as an odd nomenclature.
ReplyDeleteAs per your goals, I got an email from a friend in Arizona the other day, letting me know how she was doing with her resolution to lose ten pounds this year. She said she's doing just fine... only has fifteen more pounds to go. :)
Chrys' cover looks terrific. I reckon I'll have to go ahead and pre-order her book. (I have absolutely no self-control when it comes to books...)
Your friend and I have a lot in common!! The more I try to lose, the more I find.
DeleteI love people with book addictions. They're always the best sorts.
Congrats to Chrys!
ReplyDeleteGood Friday is an interesting day - I didn't get it at all as a kid, but I love it now. It is one of my favorite worship service days of the whole year, which is kind of odd, because my second favorite is Easter. :)
I totally get the weight thing - I'm struggling with that, too.
And, I get the kid thing, too. I openly tell people in conversations - I want to brag about my kids, but if I do, they will take revenge. (Seriously, that's what it feels like.)
Best wishes on all of your goals!!!
I always think it's God's way of humbling me. Just when I think I'm all that- there's the reminder that I'm barely treading water!
DeleteWe're fashionably late, but we hope you had the Goodest possible Friday, and a very good Easter as well!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with fashionably late! The people who come to the party late are always happy to help clean up the mess.
