Good Things Rescue
Last week, I openly admitted to once thinking my husband was a jerk. (Read it Here).
My husband was asked if the post was true. He's a reasonably honest man, so he confessed- Yes, he said all those things and probably some worse.
Being the insightful guy that he is, he came home and asked, "Why in the hell did you put up with me?"
One, he's lucky I grew up with two older brothers and was conditioned to male deviance.
Two, he's cute.
Three, he's simply the best human being I've ever met.
My husband and I have been together 28 years and in those 28 years, I'm not sure he has ever put himself first.
My husband grew up on a farm. Every day he had more work on his plate than I was given in a month. Every summer since he able to carry a hammer, he worked. Six days a week, from morning till night. He never questioned it. He never rebelled or demanded anything in return for his labor.
Now that we have kids, he works 40+ hour weeks. He doesn't work long hours to buy himself new toys (His car is a 1994 Nissan Sentra. It's so old and crappy, its Blue Book value depends on how much gas is in the tank).
He works to give his kids all the things he never had. And from the day they were born, he has saved so when they grew up, they could chase whatever dream they wanted without worrying too much about the price tag.
He's an actions kind of guy, and that works for me.
Thanks to our hosts Lexa, L.G, and Tonja Drecker for this weekly good things check in!
Do I ever have a good thing for my Celebrate check in!!
Writer friends. They keep us balanced and on track. What would we do without them?
For this week's good things, we have the lovely Stephanie stopping by and she's brought a give away!!
Stephanie to the Rescue
Let's
say it's a cold, grey February weekend. Perfect couch potato weather, so...
1.
What TV show should we binge on?
I
would say Medium because I loved that
show, but it’s gone from Netflix. I recently binge watched Mad Men and loved it, although it might be a little heavy. If
you’re looking for something a little lighter, how about The Wonder Years? I’ve been watching it on Netflix and what a great
show!
2.
What movie should we watch?
My
all-time favorite movie is The Truman
Show. It feels like it says so much about life—his feeling of being trapped
in a life that has been created for him, the desire to have our lives mean something… I also just watched Grease Live, which I recorded when it
was on Fox. The ending was phenomenal.
3.
What shows or movies should we avoid?
American
Horror Story
Seasons 2 on. Unless you have a stomach for extreme violence. The first season
was great, but I can’t make it through any of the other seasons.
4.
What snack should we bring to our weekend couch potato sit-in?
I’ll
bring the chocolate, you bring the pizza! I worked in a movie theater as a
teenager, so I don’t get excited about popcorn, but I love veggie chips and
French Onion dip. Wear your PJs, too. My couch potato sit-ins are very informal.
Piper Morgan Joins the Circus
By Stephanie Faris
Piper is super excited to help out at Bark Street, a local animal shelter in town. Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by adorable puppies and dogs all day? And when Piper sees Taffy, the cutest dog she has ever seen, Piper is determined to find a way to bring Taffy home. But it won’t be easy—especially when she finds out someone else wants to make Taffy a part of their family, too!
Stephanie Faris knew she wanted to be an author from a very young age. In fact, her mother often told her to stop reading so much and go outside and play with the other kids. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism, she somehow found herself working in information technology. But she never stopped writing.
Stephanie is the Simon & Schuster author of 30 Days of No Gossip and 25 Roses, as well as the upcoming Piper Morgan series. When she isn’t crafting fiction, she writes for a variety of online websites on the topics of business, technology, and her favorite subject of all—fashion. She lives in Nashville with her husband, a sales executive.
1. Lose weight- every pound shaved off is a win. One pound down this morning. 2. Declutter rooms to declutter the mind. I tackled the man cave! How brave am I? 3. Publish two books. I'm up to chapter 13 on the very final edits. I'm hoping for an April release date. |
Funny, I've asked my wife that same question and gotten those same responses. Must be the secret to a good marriage;)
ReplyDeleteMy husband asks me that sometimes, too. And sometimes it's because of something I've written in my blog. Poor guys!
DeleteCongratulations, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is an awesome man.
I often wonder how I conned my wife into marrying me.
Such a sweet story. I think all men must wonder that. Thanks, Alex!
DeleteI love The Truman Show too! I tried American Horror Story. Couldn't do it. Great chat...
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one. I loved the ghost premise of Season 1, so I somehow made it through the violence but when they stopped doing ghosts and it was just evil people murdering each other... I can watch shows like Dateline and hear about murders and crime solving, but I can't watch someone being tortured or harmed in any way.
DeleteThank you so much for hosting me today, Elizabeth. I had a blast answering these questions! And it was a refreshing break. Wish we could have a REAL couch potato party!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Stephanie!! Always wonderful to have you over.
DeleteBest of luck
Congrats indeed. The truman show is a great movie for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'd whine if I ever had to go work on a farm again, that is hard work indeed. Sounds like a great guy indeed. That is one old car too haha
I'm always worried that the bottom of his car will rust out and he'll drop butt first in the middle of the highway.
DeletePizza and Chocolate-yummy, yummy, yummy!
ReplyDelete28 years? How wonderful to hear that!
When I did the math, I was amazed. Time really does fly when you're having fun.
DeleteThe blue book value depends on the amount of gas in the tank. hahahaha. Maybe it's time to get the guy a newer car. Sounds like he works hard for the money! :)
ReplyDeleteI stole that joke from my neighbor. He told me one day that Chad doubled the value of his car with his new set of tires.
DeleteHe'll never buy a new car. We've tried to talk him into it.
Congratulations on 28 years! We've only been married 11 years but I couldn't imagine life without my other half. I cherish every day.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Stephanie!!!
The years fly by. Enjoy!
DeleteI love that you're so honest about your relationship, and I really, really love that your husband is a hard worker and puts the welfare of his family above himself. That's rare and truly something to celebrate! Stephanie's cover is adorable! Wishing her much success! Yay for progress with your goals. You're inspiring me as I'd like to publish 2-3 books this years as well. :)
ReplyDeleteHe really is a rare kind of guy. Some days, I'd like to duct tape his mouth, but hey, I've never trusted perfection.
DeleteGood luck hitting your goals. I didn't do so well last year. I let my brain get in the way.
My husband is a great guy. He goes the extra mile when I wouldn't. lol Is that awful to confess? It's great to be with someone great. Congrats to Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteNope. I love your honesty! My husband is the same. I get fed up with people and situations far quicker than he does.
DeleteYour hubby sounds like such a great guy - and you're such a great gal so you clearly make the perfect couple. :D
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely bring the chocolate to the couch potato sit-in! It sounds like my kinda weekend!!

I love a good couch potato weekend. I love a mild cold that doesn't knock me on my butt, but justifies some extreme laziness.
DeleteI'm glad your husband turned out to be a diamond in the rough.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I am a lucky girl!
DeleteCongratulations Stephanie! I like the cover and the story sounds great too.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubts...this will be an excellent book!
DeleteYour husband sounds amazing. :-D
ReplyDeleteGood going on your goals!
Well now, we don't want him reading this and getting a swelled head, LOL.
DeleteI think one good lesson to learn about loving someone is learning how to forget the bad stuff!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with achieving those writing goals.
You're one smart lady! Yes, me must forget the bad and lavish our brains with the good memories.
DeleteYour hubby sounds just like mine. We've got two of the good ones! :) Great work with your goals, and congratulations to Stephanie! :)
ReplyDeleteSmart women pick good men. ;)
DeleteNo hubby in my stable but I'm glad you picked a winner Liz. I chose to stick with the single life but for those who don't it warms my heart when they get to say their partner is a great fit. Glad to see you keeping your eye on the prize with those goals. We are lucky to be part of the awesome writing community. :)
ReplyDeleteSteph is a real charmer. We both got lucky that she did guest posts with us. Make room for me! I say we check out Crouching Tiger 2. The movie is really good and I swear these Asians know how to be classy, drunkard or lethal fighters with some sass. #SassyAsians
Single life has its awesomeness! If I hadn't married Chad, I've had stayed single. I wasn't looking to get married. I like being independent, but I'm also greedy and didn't want any other women to have him, so what's a gal to do?
DeleteI'd love to have a group movie night! Wouldn't that be wonderful? Tiger 2 sounds good. I don't think I've seen it.
Glad he turned out not to be a jerk. In fact, he sounds like one great guy. Congrats to Steph again. Always feel happy when I see her covers.
ReplyDeleteShe does have the loveliest covers.
DeleteI'm glad he didn't turn out to be a jerk, too!!
Lucky girl. Great post Loved the meme.
ReplyDeleteJuneta @ Writer's Gambit
Thanks Juneta!!
DeleteYour husband sounds like a great guy, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I have binge watched Medium. Great show! :D
I'll have to check out Medium. I've never watched it.
DeleteYour husband sounds like a great guy, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I have binge watched Medium. Great show! :D
Elizabeth, our 47th anniversary is coming up in May, and my guy was a bit of a jerk... or actually, more of a smart ass... when we were kids, too. (Maybe marrying that kinda guy is the secret...?) But he also had a good head on his shoulders, a super sense of humor, and a big heart. After all these years, we've never been happier. I hope the same for you. :)
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I've been seeing your chapter book popping up here and there. It sounds soooo adorable. I wish you much success with it.
Congratulations on 47 years!! Maybe those jerks are like the mutts in the pound- they're always just happy to get to be taken home, so they're the most lovable.
DeleteYour husband is an amazing guy. I love Stephanie's cover. Chocolate and pizza sound great.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for chocolate and pizza!
DeleteExcellent post! She's a wonderful author. That was a fun interview to read. Keep up the great work with your goals.
ReplyDeleteShe is one very talented lady!
Deleteawwww! and yay stephanie! she has the cutest books!
ReplyDeletethanks for playing with us Liz!
I guess that is a meme, but that's not all I have planned!
DeleteYour hubs is a keeper, and he gets bonus points for being cute. Of course, he's equally lucky to have a cute keeper in you.
ReplyDeleteDid someone say chocolate? I'm there! Save me a seat, ladies.
I remind him all the time how lucky he is.
DeleteI'll definitely save you a seat and some chocolate.
That car may be old as dirt and beat up but I bet it runs like a champ and is easy to fix. My wife has a brand new car, and I'm already fearing the day I have to attempt to fix something on it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, American Horror Story definitely got worse after the first season (which was absolutely the best), but none was worse than last year's Freak Show that featured singing and dancing and everything awful about Glee that is most definitely NOT horror related.
You're right about that. You need a PhD to fix cars and appliances anymore.
DeleteI usually say totally the wrong things as well, but must be doing something right. Hard to comprehend that my 10th wedding anniversary is coming up. Your husband sounds great!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Stephanie's newest installment and your hard work on edits.
Congratulations on 10 years! Here's to many more.
DeleteGreetings, earthling! Can't stay for long, gotta git back ...yet, if I'm a sower, we plant the Seed; if I'm an artist, we write the Word:
ReplyDeleteI actually saw Seventh-Heaven when we died: you couldn't GET any moe curly, extravagantly-surplus-lush Upstairs when my beautifull, brilliant, bombastic girl passed-away at 17 (<--God calls U.S. home regardless).
"Those who are wise will shine as brightly as the expanse of the Heavens, and those who have instructed many in uprightousness, as bright as stars for all eternity"
-Daniel 12:3
Here's what the prolific, exquisite GODy sed: 'the more you shall honor Me, the more I shall bless you'

Go git'm, girl. You're incredible.
See you Upstairs...
I won't be joining'm in da nasty Abyss
