Easy Does It
The less effort put into acquiring something, the less it's appreciated by its owner. My kids HATE that...or more precisely they hate that their parents believe this to be true. I want is usually countered with how much money do you have? Then they're expected to earn the money to buy the excess, like video games, with the money they make mowing lawns and such. They call it mean, we call it character building.
Easy exercise?
Take a walk. No equipment needed! And if you have one of these...they're always eager to go!
Grizzly He's napping while I write... though he'd certainly rather go for a walk! |
Easy Eggcellence?
I love eggs. Always have, even when they were the bad guys. I never doubted them and it seems science is finally giving them the credit they deserve. They're little vitamin powerhouses containing vitamins A, B, D, E, Biotin, Choline, Folic Acid, Iodine, Iron, Lutein and zeaxanthin, Phosphorous, Protein, and Selenium (I didn't know these by heart...I got the list from a Medical News Today article. To read all about egg goodness, click the link.)
I smacked this egg on it's bottom then gently squeezed its sides. Consider it the sexy way to ease an egg from its shell. |
Want to make a better egg?
*Boil eggs for ten minutes (I start the timer once the water is boiling)
*After ten minutes, remove from heat.
*Drain hot water.
*Cover eggs with ice and water and allow to cool.
(Ice water will make the yolks fluffier and a brighter yellow.)
*Then peel. I like to crack the egg at the wider bottom, then squeeze it gently. Start from the side or top and the shell clings to the egg.
Eggs helped me to lose 52 lbs. years ago, and I've kept it off. Also helped get a reverse diagnosis of diabetes, five years ago. Still egging my life around.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!! See? I knew eggs were a wonder. Congratulations!!
Deletehugs to Grizzly
ReplyDeleteHe is my constant buddy.
DeleteI think my dog is broken. He's never excited for walks and just looks at me like, "Dude, leave me alone." Then goes back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of hardboiled eggs, too. And so is my waistline.
Mine are insane for walks. Go to the door with a leash and it's worse than a Who concert.
DeleteEveryone tends to think you should just eat the whites but the yolk is packed with protein and nutrients!
ReplyDeleteI've always eaten the yolks. I used to worry, but my cholesterol is always optimum.
DeleteLove that philosophy. Now I hear it from the grandkids. I answer, "And I want to be young and thin. We don't always get what we want."
ReplyDeleteLOL. Mine is "I want a million dollars"...I never get what I want either. LOL
DeleteI love eggs! I love exercise! I kind of agree about the effort of obtaining something too... but then, I am a parent :-)

LOL. I don't love exercise...it is my weakness. I do like to take walks, though my husband says I walk to slow...I say it's better than nothing!
DeleteMy comment: Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
ReplyDeleteHa! Just kidding. I'm going to try your egg trick. However, if my egg ends up shooting out from the top, then I'm calling to complain. :D
I've never had one pop out the top, but since we live in a litigious world, I shall add...please wear protective eye wear.
DeleteWe eat a lot of eggs, but more often as omelets although I adapted a devilled egg recipe. Most don't have enough spiciness although that's what devilled means. The Portuguese do some wonderful egg recipes especially for desserts.
ReplyDeleteI love omelets and deviled eggs. I can't think of any way I don't like them. My dad used to add horseradish to his deviled eggs to give them some zing.

DeleteThe dogs at the other sea are always ready to go for a walk. The cat would even go I bet.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a cat I took for walks. We got him from the pound declawed and he loved to go out, but I was afraid he'd get eaten by a dog, so we walked him on a leash.
DeleteI've been very good at saving my money ever since I was a kid. At 12 yrs old I had enough money saved to buy my own Super NES ;) And some games too! It was an awesome day.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great habit to learn. And it teaches them patience and delayed gratification.
DeleteIt's amazing how an item that one of my kids must absolutely have changes to something they didn't really need after I tell them they can have it provided they pay for it. And any time they tell me I'm being mean, I just smile big and say, "Yes, I am."
ReplyDeleteYou're so right about that. They do quickly learn to be thrifty when it's their money.
DeleteI'm a mean mom too. I consider it a badge of honor.

ReplyDeleteHow to build a better egg...
ReplyDeleteThat building character thing is really awesome when you're the parent, right?
It's a must. If they leave this house without character, I have failed.
DeleteWalking is my favorite form of exercise. :) I always have a hard time peeling hard-boiled eggs, so I'll have to try your tips.
ReplyDeleteMy son used the tip this morning. Out of twelve eggs, he only destroyed two...a much better average than usual.
DeleteHahaha, great post!! So true.
ReplyDeleteWe keep boiled eggs in the fridge for a fast breakfast.
ReplyDeleteNow, don't get me wrong - there is nothing easier to make than a boiled egg - but I got an egg cooker for .50 at a garage sale and we use it all the time. It's awesome.
I didn't even know an egg cooker existed. I am intrigued and must check that out. I bought a rice steamer and I LOVE it.
DeleteI don't like exercise all that much but walking would definitely be my favorite. I love hard boiled eggs!
ReplyDeleteI hate exercising. I really do. I am a slug by nature. Walking is the only one I actually enjoy.
DeleteAnything Easy is pleasing to me! Love hard boiled eggs, too. Easy to carry. No extra packaging required.
ReplyDeleteThey are perfect!
DeleteHoW? What?! never heard of this one before, not that I know anything about cooking which is a shame but making eggs like this? ice?!! Wow! mind blown O-0
ReplyDelete"Haneen/I Will Never Give you Up (479)"
Be sure to boil them before you ice them, Haneen, or you'll just have cold raw egg...totally not recommended, even if Rocky did drink it.
DeleteI do the same with my kids. I think that it really helps with the realities of life when they get older.
ReplyDeleteWalking is a great exercise. I have lately been doing it every day.
Yep, I have to tell myself no all the time.
DeleteThere are so many things we've been told aren't good for us only to find out the opposite is true. Hail the wholesome egg!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth! I mean coffee is good. Chocolate is good. We just need to trust nature. It's when man starts tampering with it that it gets bad.
DeleteMy husband and I hold to that same philsophy. We try to make sure our kids always have some skin in the game. I boil and peel my eggs using the same techniques. They are very effective.

Wise lady already!
DeleteThat is so true about eggs being relatively okay for you and a good source of protein. I'll have 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast and it sustains me until lunch. Dogs always make the best walking partners I think (unless they like to sniff and waddle more than walk :)
ReplyDeleteSo true to have to earn some things, as hard as it is to wait for it, but in the long run I do agree we appreciate the item more.
betty
Grizzly is a horrible walker. He barks at birds. You don;t realize just how many birds there are in this universe until you have a dog who barks at them. I say, "Hush." a lot as we go!
DeleteI love eggs and I have heard that I should only eat the whites, but lately I am hearing the opposite. I eat the whole egg. I could really appreciate your take on,"easy come easy go." I didn't learn this valuable lesson until well into adulthood and so I am trying to teach it to my children at a younger age. It wasn't until I had to actually pay the full expense for a car that I began taking good care of it, cleaning it out daily, weekly car washes and keeping the oil maintained and engine serviced. When my parents bought my cars, no matter how much they preached, none of it stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved eggs. I worried briefly about the whole egg, but then I figured that most anything made by nature is pretty perfect...it's only we get our hands on it that it becomes bad.
DeleteMy first full time job taught me to be less frivolous for sure!
My kids actually would rather earn money from other people than from me . . . they feel I don't pay high enough wages . . .oh well. :) They still have chores.
ReplyDeleteI pay horrible wages to mine too. Some days all they get is room and board. LOL
DeleteGreat egg tips - at one time I had 30 laying hens in my back yard so we ate a LOT of eggs :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents used to raise chickens. I loved it when my grandma would incubate cheeps. I had all kinds of baby chicks to play with.
DeleteI love walking. I probably don't get out and do it enough.
ReplyDeleteI never do any exercise enough. Part of my problem is thinking if I can't get a full work out in, it's pointless.
DeleteSo true about the effort. And yes, my own daughter is just starting to experience this.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love your recipes for A to Z, I might have to give eggs a higher placement in my edible scale.
Don't I have some awesome stuff? Only the easy here!
DeleteYou easily (see what I did there) spoke to me. I know you're such a wise one and I love the walk and egg theory now can you eat an egg and walk?? Easy
ReplyDeleteNo, but I will eat an egg and then walk. :)
DeleteI'm all for easy exercise, and I do walk a lot. Thankfully it's pretty flat around here and the shops aren't far, so I can incorporate it into everyday life.
ReplyDeleteI used to walk to the grocery store all the time. But it adds at least 40 minutes to a trip, so I have started driving. I need to get back to my life of leisure.
DeleteI love eggs too! But I'm always getting so frustrated trying to peel them. I'm going to try your trick next time. Thanks! Last night we had egg curry for dinner. It's one of my favourite dishes... totally yummy!! xx
ReplyDeleteI've never had egg curry. I'll have to check that out.
DeleteYum, I love eggs too! Soft boiled, with a bit of pepper...
ReplyDeleteNever added pepper. I add the dreaded salt. Now, that's not good...
DeleteSoft-boiled eggs and strips of toast, one of the nicest meals possible. Hardboiled in salads comes a close second though.
ReplyDeleteWe have two dogs, and now the sun's starting to come out, they'd be happy if they could have three walks a day. They look very pointedly out the window if they think we've forgotten...
Those are great ways to eat eggs.
DeleteIf mine hear a chain or hear the words walk or go-go, rattle, they go nuts. Mine don't get to go often enough to be on a schedule. Yours are lucky dogs!
