Happy Mother's Day!

For years I have tried to raise my crazy mother.

The woman believes in fantasy and deals made by hands shakes.

She makes choices based on gut decisions and feeling  instead of logic and fact.

She believes that things always work out for the best, that if you do right by people, they will do right by you.

She is moody...say mean things to her and she cries. Say something nice and she's elated.

She says what's on her mind. No matter what is on her mind.

She is generous to a fault. Believes in luck, fate, and the power of prayer.

She is 76 going on 16.

My mom also has a daughter who nags at her about reality and planning.

About being smart over being nice.

Who tries to get her to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

A daughter who has tried to teach her an emotional poker face...to hold her thoughts and play them as wisely as a hand of cards.

Her daughter tries to teach her lessons in realism...to get all things in writing. To make plans. And then back those plans up.

But alas, my dears...she never, ever listens!

And maybe that's a good thing.

If it weren't for my mom, I wouldn't be writing this post.

I'd probably be an accountant, because being a writer makes little sense.

My mother taught me to dream. To imagine the impossible is attainable.

To never give up, even when it feels like I should.

Love you Mom. Happy Mother's Day.

*My mom on marketing...

Mom. "What's a RITA?"
"It's like the Pulitzer prize for romance, why?" I ask.
"I think you should win that. It would probably boost your sales."
"Mom, I'm never going to win a RITA."
"Hmm. I think you could."
"I can't. Forget it...but thanks."
"So, why don't you call FOX and Friends? They are always talking about people's books."
"I can't call FOX."
"Oh, you want me to?"

That's my mom. Got to love her.

  14. Hi Elizabeth - your mum is a very lovely woman. I think it's too late to try to change anything about her now, and deep down I don't think you would. She obviously cares about you. Let her ring FOX and have some fun, why not?

No, Fanny, we better not encourage her. LOL

  19. That's awesome, and I love this, if only because my mom is the same way. Apparently she thinks I'm only one call away from appearing on our local news station's 6:00 broadcast. "Coming up next, Indie author you've probably never heard of releases new book!"

My lovely human, your beloved mum taught you well. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. My human wishes his mother a wonderful Mother's Day twice in one year. The one in March and the one in May :)

  27. Hey:)

I feel bad for not stopping by on CyberMother's Day, so can you tell that whippersnapper of a mother of yours that her long lost CyberSon wishes her a happy Hump Day.

    Go on... I dare you!!!

    I double dare you!!!

PS... Remind me to send you a picture, but the three dogs you sent my boys are now part of a permanent "memory box" display I created for their Mom this past week :)

    1. My mom is an ornery bird Mark...be careful how you wish her a happy hump day!

How sweet that you did that. Memories are the most important of all things.

  28. LOL! That's rocktastic and epic. My hubby is the optimist in my life. The worst part is he's so darn convincing. One day I'm going to learn to stop listening to him... That or I'll catch his vision and we'll be unstoppable. I'm hoping for the latter.

    1. I'd prefer you catch his vision! I think you have all the talent you need. I am in the optimistic boat with your hubs!

  29. Aww, she sounds sweet. Most people make decisions based on feelings. We're not logical creatures. Hope you had a good mother's day.
