Memories. Selfies. Relationships.

Merry Christmas!!

Cherdo and Jane Junebug are hosting a festive blog hop. These are some hilariously poignant ladies, if you're not following them, you need to rectify that now. Consider it a gift to yourself.

Another lovely, hilarious lady Tammy Theriault has requested some Christmas tree selfies.

Does this angle make my face big?
And no, I'm not angry--
though I would be happier
if Elise sent me a hat.
Not being the master of the selfie (and forgetting to do it until bedtime!), I was hesitant- but since it's for Tammy, I grabbed my phone, adjusted my jammies and snapped away.

Now, for the blog hop!

Best Christmas memory?

See those ornaments on the tree? Those ones right there, behind my big head?

When my kids were born, I bought one ornament a year for them. Then, as soon as they could say, "mine", I let them pick their own. Now, some twenty years later, we have a strange assortment of memorable treasures- from the plate snow man to the golf ball on a string.

But, strange and un-theme-like as my tree is-  each and every ornament is a reminder of something- like the oldest son's obsession with school trucks, hence the yellow bus decked out in holly...or the giant mirrored disco ball that was the tacky toddler high fashion of tree trim

Every single item hanging on the tree has a story. And really- aren't we all about the stories?

So, what's your best ornament memory?

I'm taking a bit of a blogging break until January's IWSG (first Wednesday of the month- you know that, right?)

But, I leave you in good hands. Another funny blogger- though this time, he's a dude- is here to share with us the many ways Dan Landis* keeps the magic in his relationship(s).

*Dan is a fictional character, or so says his "creator" Jay Mims.

Dear Liz,

I'm always of the opinion that third time is the charm! We've talked about cheating, places to go to cheat and now it's time to talk about...RELATIONSHIPS! Because if there's one thing a private investigator and God's gift to women knows something about, it's relationship.

I'm also happy to talk about suits.
And how good I look in them.

As you know, I'm a ruggedly handsome private investigator who specializes in cheating spouses. And that's just my dating life. So, let's talk about keeping your relationship healthy.

DAN LANDIS PRESENTS:
TOP FIVE TIPS FOR KEEPING THE
MAGIC IN A RELATIONSHIP

1) HOBBIES:

The couple that irons at 30,000 feet together, stays together

I have always argued hobbies are what keep life interesting. For instance, I collect crazy ex's. That's not a hobby I recommend. What I do recommend, is something you both can excel at. Team sports are great, and nothing's sexier then a little competition. Just remember, as with cinnamon, a little taste can go a long way.

And laser tag is AWESOME!

2) GO ON AN ADVENTURE

Costumes are optional.
Who doesn't love an adventure? Whether it's going to get the milk or fighting zombies, there's an adventure to be had in anything. Or maybe it's just me. In fairness, my life is kind of one wacky antic after another.

My latest adventure is on sale now!

3) EXERCISE

I am vengeance. I am the night. I AM DOING CARDIO!

Exercise is a great way to burn calories and improve yourself. And if you're going to be a couple, you might as well learn to improve yourselves together!

Ninjas have a surprisingly low divorce rate.

4) SET GOALS

This can't possibly end badly.
Everyone needs a goal to work toward, and if you want to keep the magic in your relationship, you need to do the same. It doesn't have to be big, maybe it's just saying one nice thing about the other person. Maybe it's running a marathon. Maybe it's actually keeping the bathroom clean for a week.

And the best way to keep the magic in your relationship?

5) LEARN MAGIC!

It's an ILLUSION!

Combining exercise, hobbies and goals, magic is a great way to keep a relationship spicy.

And nothing says "Trust" like sawing your partner in half.

And if that doesn't work, try wooing. Maybe try to understand what she's going through. Maybe try some self-improvement. Whatever works.  And if the relationship doesn't work, you can always try cheating. I even know a few places.
A great place to get away from it all!

Dan Landis lives inside the head of Jay Mims. Jay lives with a kitten named Meowstapheles, his neighbor’s cat who he accidentally adopted and calls Eartha Kitty, a lizard named Bob and a passive-aggressive Dalek roommate named Steve. He writes books and is far funnier on Facebook then in real life. He is terrible at Twitter. His latest book, Racing the Storm is available wherever books are sold. Holiday Goodies!!!

8:46 PM Elizabeth Seckman 69 Comments

Okay, seriously...you know Mary and Joseph had to be some pretty special people, cause were I the mother of God on earth? There would be some bragging going on.

Just sayin'....

                            ******
Tis the season and there are good things to share. I've been hoarding them all...just waiting for today...

I barely left my house to shop this holiday season. Spent Black Friday curled up on my couch watching football and eating left over turkey.

Am I joining the anti-capitalist and refusing to shop this season? Not hardly!!

I'm doing the online shopping, baby! The UPS man visits my house so often, the neighbors probably think we have a thing going on.

And the best part of the online shopping experience?

Ebates Coupons and Cash Back
They should pay me for the ad, right?
Well, they will if you tell them I sent you.
But that's work, so screw it.
Just go shop and save some money.
This site is awesome!!! I've earned over $177 this shopping season. I just go to Ebates and follow the link to stores I would be shopping at anyhow and I earn cash back!

                                                          ****************

This year, I'm hosting the family Christmas party. I plan to keep things simple- hot dog bar anyone?

Our family has a lot of little kids, so to offset my lame menu- I found these awesome crafts to make my party a step above a visit to McDonald's.

Isn't this awesome?
From Kissing Frog's Photography
This is a great keep sake for the little ones. Or- if you think your cousin brought a felon to the family mixer...you have the opportunity to lift some prints without raising an eyebrow.

Another awesome, awesome idea I plan to do this year is one I got from the talented writer of Christian fiction, Jesse Andersen. Using a table cloth as a family history record! Love it. I wish I had thought of this when my kids drew pictures that never involved penises and boobs. I'm not at all sure what it is about teen boys and the obsession with body parts.

This is Jesse pic of her family's tablecloth.

I have good news too!! Fate Intended is a finalist in the AuthorsdB cover contest. Special thanks to Lindsay Anne Kendall for her hard work. Working with an author (specifically, this one) has to be a pain in the butt.

That's not all the good stuff I've got to tell you about-

The delightfully talented Medeia Shariff has another book coming. This lady has oodles of talent, so this one gets added to the top of my to read list.

VITAMINS AND DEATH, Prizm Books/Torquere Press, December 10, 2014
Purchase from Prizm, Amazon – Vendor sites will be updated on the author’s site.

Deidra Battle wants nothing more than to be invisible. After her mother, a public school teacher, engages in an embarrassing teacher-student affair at Lincoln High, they relocate to a different neighborhood and school. Being her mother's briefcase, Deidra joins her mother at her new workplace, Hodge High. Since her mother has reverted to her maiden name and changed her appearance, she thinks no one will figure out they're the Battles from recent news and that they're safe. Neither of them is. Hodge brings a fresh set of bullies who discover details about the scandal that changed Deidra's life. Feeling trapped at home with an emotionally abusive, pill-addicted mother and at school with hostile classmates who attempt to assault and blackmail her, Deidra yearns for freedom, even if she has to act out of character and hurt others in the process. Freedom comes at a price.

Missing the Boat

12:00 AM Elizabeth Seckman 72 Comments

Dinos missing the boat and becoming extinct is a little known theory often never shared by scientists. I kind of like the theory. It beats the whole disease/meteor stuff. If given the choice among a hideous disease, a directionally challenged meteor, or a huge flood with a direct order from God to build a boat? I'll grab me a saw. I like having a lifeboat as an option.

And speaking of life rafts and NOT wanting to miss launches:

The IWSG book is available!

This book is FREE!!!
An excellent resource and inspiration- why haven't you gotten your copy?
Get yours now at AmazonBarnes and Noble, or Smashwords.
And be sure to add it to your read list on Goodreads!

Join the IWSG here!

Now, onto the regular IWSG* post!!

Here's the thing- if I'm doing well in one area, I am sucking in another. If my word count is solid, I forget to pay the cable bill. If I make sure my personal life runs smoothly, my word count goes down the toilet.

I know, I know...my husband tells me all the time, I just need to find a balance, set priorities...

That's all well and good, but what do you do when work isn't really work? What if it's more like an addiction. One that you don't want to walk away from until someone interrupts and asks you if you've bathed or eaten in a few days?

Any suggestions?
